apparnetly this kid killed himself because he realized that there is no meaning to the universe. why are they blaming the drug? they need to blame christianity for giving people false hope.

Anyway, I know from experience that Salvia is crazy shit. If he was already depressed, and then started messing with drugs, I can understand why he would resort to suicide.

Yes and no, I'd say certain drugs could definately help with depression if taken carefully, but as far as hullucinogenics go, I'd imagine you're right. In the end, life is what you make of it, you have to find your own reason to keep living and enjoy life, no matter how great or small your understanding of the universe it's up to people to make what they will out of life.

Yes, I'm very involved in the salvia scene. Everyone that has ever reported on the use of salvia has reported aftereffects of wellbeing and mild euphoria. After a little research, it turns out that he was under a certain medication for acne. The side effects for this medication include depression, and thoughts of suicide. If .00001% of people who take salvia commit suicide, then it's obviously not the salvia.

Salvia is being heavily researched as an ANTI-DEPRESSANT. This kid is being used as a scapegoat to illegalize salvia.

Yay. Another fool provides ammo for more tyrannical and moralistic interference of government in daily life.

I'll add that he had killed himself 1-2 weeks after smoking salvia. He was not under any influence at the time.

me and my friend did some yesterday. I don't do the ganja and she knows this. I told her about this "legal" saliva that she needs to try and she like "yeah whatever" thinking it was going to be weak. After we did some she said something i never heard before..."FUCK WEED! THAT SHIT IS THE BOMB!"

There's no reason why this should be debated: it seems they want this excuse as much as Brett wanted to cease his existence, no matter how illogical their decisions might have been. Wow. I have the same name as this kid and have come to the same conclusions. And i've only smoked salvia a few times, and came to the meaningless existence realization long before that. I'm going to say that his thinking may, just may, have been caused by the depressing state of the shithole of a world we live in that just seems to get worse every year, rather than by smoking salvia a time or two. Plus, when taking hallucinogens you usually come to find a profound meaning in everything, not a lack of meaning. But ah, ignorance is wonderful isn't it?

Honestly, I don't buy into that 'the world is getting worse every year' melodrama people have going. People have been thinking their generation will be the last and all of that forever, bad things have always happened, and probably always will. You telling me you would have preferred to live in a peasants hovel 600 years ago? There have always been stupid people, there have always been cruel people, there have always been ignorant people, in the scheme of things, not much has changed except that technology has made it all more global.

I am not saying my generation will be the last. That would be a good thing. And i'm not saying that conditions are getting worse. Its the complete full-of-shitness that gets worse year after year and it makes me sick. And i can't speak for the full course of history, i speak only for what i've seen while i have been alive.

I know you didn't say that specifically, but I'm just talking about that general 'ahhhhh the sky is falling' line of thought. People always think things are getting worse, nothing is ever as good as it was 'back in the day.' It's just the way people are I guess.

Taranis is right about these perceptions being generational. Every generation thinks it was the first to rebel, the first to realize (almost anything), and the first to fail.

Its because humans hate change.

I like salvia. It didn't make me kill myself, or my friends. This is what happens when idiots dabble in things they don't know shit about, lobbyists included. They want to ban something they know shit about..

I'd say it's more because we're mostly incapable of it. You can change setting, you can change technology, but changing human nature is a lot harder.

Sounds like he was already depressed and suicidal. The salvia would have given him the motivation to go through with it. It's often the case when someone who's very depressed starts to get better, that's always the point where suicides occur.
