If u work in a call center. Your job going to india.

I had a client call me today because he was upset that TD CanadaTrust has set up a dry run to have their call center in India. I know this day would happen, soon all the call center jobs will be in India. I guess it time to look for something else.

This has been going on for years. Alot of companies although have decided to keep their operations still in N. America because the customers have show serious concerns about being able to talk to someone who is ' local ' and not international. Canada and Mexico has been an alternative for some American companies but companies as such as Microsoft and others really do not care what the customer base says or thinks. They make money regardless.

Personally i do not care. When i call a call centre and my concern is addressed properly and i am looked after in a manner i like then i dont give a flyin fawk where the Rep is sitting. He / She could be in Uganada and it wont bother me.

Ahhhh, I wouldn't say that. While that industry is growing rapidly in India, two of it's 4 major players in Accenture and EDS are still US based companies and in direct competition with Infosys and Wipro. The American companies are still over twice the size of the Indian companies. Give it a few years at least. The Indian business' can only grow so fast.

I take it you work there. I'm suprised you're getting this "news" from clients and not management.

I work for them AT a call centre. My job is not in danger. Period.

P.S. It's been like that for a while.

Posted by 7-4-7 on Feb-06-2007 06:16:

There are service call centres that offer a specific product or trade which is teachable, transferable which trancends international barriers.

Not all call centres operate in this business model.

For inbound contact centres this may be more prevalent, the client in that case more or less wants you, for boutique call centres dealing in the outbound industry it is proven to be especially difficult to export, with the kind of excellence that it requires to simply pack up the business model and ship it elsewhere has been proven time and time again to be ineffective.

This thread is misleading and misrepresented by the "starter".

I, for one, am glad - it gives me more chances to correct someone's English.

Oh man, call up Dell one day and just try to get an answer about anything.

Posted by GrooveBuff on Feb-06-2007 14:54:

Air Canada's largest call centre is in INDIA. They layed off Canadian workers in Canadian cities and hired Indians in India because they were paid much less than Canadians.

I agree that the airline had to make some juggling around to restructure to save their company, but what they did with the call centre was absolutely disgusting!
