File format converters
Hey guys, I did a search but came up with nothing on this subject.
I'm looking for a program which allows you to convert music files, in this case wav. files into various bitrate mp3 files.
I've been recording my mixes using an external soundcard and audacity, and exporting the projects as wav. But I want to downsize some files to 320kbps etc.
I use cd-da extractor to convert some files, but its wav to mp3 option is 128kbps.
Any other good free, or reasonably cheap programs which can do this?
Re: File format converters
have a mac now so i just use itunes...
when i had a pc i used dbpoweramp (http://www.dbpoweramp.com)
edit: just noticed dbpoweramp may no longer be free....but basically all you want to do is find an mp3 encoder that uses LAME (mp3 coding algorithm). google and you'll come up with a bunch.
If you use Audacity, you can save directly to MP3.
Just download the MP3 LAME encoder and you're set. Instead of saving as WAV, save as MP3.
Here's the link.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/hel...l&item=lame-mp3
If you wanna do double the work, save as WAV, than encode to MP3, use iTunes.
If you've already got Audacity, might aswell use that.
Just open up the WAV file, export as MP3. Doesn't really get much simpler...

Like I say every time this gets asked...
If it doesn't use LAME it's lame. Just find yourself the latest version of the LAME codec and a front-end (RazorLame for example) for it and that's all you need.

If you go to Edit > Preferences > File Formats, there should be a drop down menu in the bit that says 'MP3 Export Setup'

I thought I'd use this thread to make another inquiry about Audacity. I can't find any info on whether or not its possible to track/cut up your mixes?
