Pilot debacle
Another needless casualty in Iraq
In a nutshell - Pilot opened fire on British ground unit, killing a British soldier after mistaking it for rocket launcher or the suchlike. The US refused to release the tapes to the media, but they have been leaked...
Pilot's fault or ground control fault? What annoys me (apart from the laughing) is that they opened fire, came back round and opened fire again, whilst in the space between the two firings, the ground unit had sent off friendly flares.
Part 1: (7:30 is where they're told they've hit friendly unit)
Part 2:
Thoughts?
Hmm. Not sure what to say.
It seems like they would do a little bit more investigation before blowing shit up that they don't even know what it is.
I don't know how the system works though. It appears as though they received orders from ground to blow up the rockets. Ground also said there were no friendlies. I don't think the pilots were at fault.
No they saw the orange signs they then engaged after one question to someone who wasn't there.
In my work if you blindly trust what someone says say an electrical isolation "yeah turned it off" you still check it first and use your own mind.
There wasn't due care and attention here. One of them had been promoted, featured on the front of a "top gun" magazine and is now teaching other pilots.....
They interviewed his neighbour (not a hick redneck normal older guy middle class) who said "yeah he's a hero, his family is proud, proud he's representing his country whos trying to do something these not like your damn country (Britian) sucking it's damn thumb like you did in ww2" irony ohhhh fucking irony! Stay out till you get attacked while Britain stood upto them alone when it could have joined the Nazis... just shows the level of ignorance.
"little yellow tanks" how technical.........

Its war, this stuff happens.
Collateral damage does not discriminate between civilians and military
I think it was a horrible mix up. The pilots made judgmental errors and the ground control indicated that there was no friendly armor in that sector. It seemed that the pilots were dismayed after they realized what had happened.
