The Hitman and Her

With discussions recently about club lighting , I thought i would try and dig up some footage of what UK clubs looked like when I worked there back in the 8o's
This was mostly pre intellignet lighting , with a lot of neon and motorised effects

The show was shot live at a different club every week and (check you tube for more clips) was hosted by Pete waterman of Production team Stock aitken and waterman who produced a lot of pop talent like rick astley kylie minogue etc
The girl i don't remember well, but she looked nice

Stock Aitken Waterman were my favourite producers. Half my crates are by them. They're totally legends as producers in the late 80s.
And yes, a lot of the large clubs had similar lighting.. lots of neon spinners.

Good find Russle! Thanks for sharing this.

Look at all those mechanical lights! WOAH! That looks insane with all the moving parts!

Love the music in the videos as well.

AHH the days of the harvester, helicopter, cosmo ball , nuetron star astrospider tarantula , venus etc

Maintaining them was a pig

They were mostly made by Kremesa and Satel in spain and Coemar in Italy with various other companies making various other versions
Motors were almost inaccesable and they failed often
build quality was dubious and lamps were wired in series, however they were very exciting to watch and i wish I had a warehouse full of them now. To build a club with a mixture of vintage lights and modern movers would be a wet dream for me
Sadly the makers are now defunct (coemar still makes movers) and even searches across the net turns up no info whatsoever on these manufacturers or fixtures, not even pictures

What astounds me is the sheer velocity that some of those lights are spinning at.

Surely there must have been some accidents!
