Global child sex ring uncovered

Austrian Police press officer Gerrard Hesztera confirmed to CTV News that one to three Canadians are suspected of paying to access videos on a website of young children, aged 14 and under, being sexually abused.

Interior Minister Guenther Platter said the FBI was investigating about 600 suspects in the United States, German authorities were looking at 400 people, France at 100 suspects while his country was looking at 23 people.

Platter said the videos contained "the worst kind of child sexual abuse."

Austrian police are calling the case "a strike against child pornography unprecedented in Austrian criminal history."

"Girls could be seen being raped, and you could also hear screams,'' said Harald Gremel, an Austrian police expert on Internet crime who headed the investigation.

Gremel said no infants were seen in any of the videos and that authorities moved quickly to share their information with other countries to help apprehend suspects abroad.

He said the investigation was launched in July after a man working for a Vienna-based Internet file hosting service alerted authorities at the Interior Ministry to pornographic material he had discovered during a routine check.

In the span of 24 hours, the man recorded 8,000 hits from 2,361 computer IP addresses in 77 countries, confirmed Gremel. The man managed to record the IP addresses of those trying to access the material and gave the information to authorities.

In Austria, the youngest person implicated in the case is 17 and the oldest is 69.

Gremel said the videos were all posted on a Russian website that is now defunct. To access the material, users had to pay US$89.

Investigators believe most of the videos were made in Eastern Europe and uploaded somewhere in Britain.

Austrian authorities have so far seized 31 PCs, seven laptops, 1,232 DVDs and CDs, 1,428 diskettes and 213 video cassettes.

No comments on the sick f-cking abuse of children, young sex'n'housekeeper slaves and around the world? This is a very big issue. I saw a documnetary few months ago (forgot the name), detailing how these young people, men and mostly women who get snatched, lied to, abused around the world for huge profit, in some places with authorities help. The movie said that every 3 minutes a child become a sex trade victim, sometimes for a long time. Even in United States, the famous case video posted here on PD forum that I hope someone here could link back again, shed the light to (forgot the name of the famous politician implicated).

I believe in God.

Not that profound a statement I guess. If you don't believe in God, then you are completely insulated from the following...

There is a fundamental assumption that people make about God. That is that god is "good". Why? There is no rational onus on God that imposes this restriction on the nature of the divine. I would never assume that over the horizon is a lake. If I was thirsty or hot, I might *hope* there was a lake over the horizon. And assuming there was one might give me added strength to travel there. But neither the hope nor the assumption guarantees that what lies over horizon will resolve into a lake instead of a desert.

Yet on the topic God, everyone is positive that there is a lake and not a desert over the horizon.

The problem then, is it possible to reconcile a good deity with a universe where the horror described above exists?

Various arguments can be presented to absolve the divine of any responsibility (it's our fault because of our nature, our responsibility because we have free will etc.)

Regardless of what argument you come up with I say, without reservation that it isn't good enough. That a *fundamental characteristic of a good deity would be to intervene on this issue*. These horrors can only be the product of a desert, and not a lake.

If we are in a reality that is governed by a deity that is not good (i.e. allows these horrors), then regardless of any green patches you might find on this side of the horizon we are all very very screwed.

It's a real problem.

I heard about this today and it gave me a sick feeling in my gut. I have children and it makes me want to throw up thinking that some ass gets his rocks off to seeing such crap. I think we can all agree here at TA that this crap is sick and these people need to be taken out.
No appeal process, no passing go or collecting $200. Go straight to the hangman.
