lol the sets are great... and better yet legitimate too!! but usually straight .mp3 or .zip format no???

I dont get why release groups still split things up into multiple rar files. Back in the day when people would still trade stuff on floppies, it made sense.

Hell, even in the earlier days of the internet when resume support was flaky and connection speeds were slower - it would make sense. if your download got interrupted, it was only one file of many that you had to start over instead of an entire massive download.

But now with high speed / bit torrents / etc, just seems like a waste of time.

What I really hate, is when you get one massive rar file, that has 100 smaller rar files inside.

I hate when they "rar" twice ... you download the file its 1.4 gigs...unrar ... you now have 2 cds ... and then fucking hell each cd is split into 30+ files so gotta unrar again ... whats the point of that ...

Posted by Platipus on Feb-10-2007 03:02:

even better, when the rar opens up to more rars, and then those rars open up to a bin/cue, then you gots to convert to mpg... ahhh irc

I know what you mean..just use a program called Daemon Tools which lets you mount the bin/cue file onto virtual drives so you don't have to convert/burn it to a CD...

i prefer not to mount images, waste of time, just use vcdgear to extract it to mpg

lol??
what you're doing is a waste of time when you can just load it up in daemon tools

then i gotta mount the image, and unmount the image, I got enough drives to deal with let alone a bunch of virtual drives chugging up resources. what if i want to watch it again, then i gotta unmount the previous video, mount the new one. one more process after the rar, and it's 1 click away forever with no wait time.. no additional programs running. stored away neatly for future use!

granted for games i'll mount the image to do the install, but that's it. one time only, add a no-cd crack and you're golden

for storage purposes yeah, makes sense
but if you download dvds or svcd, w/e you download why not just burn it? whats the point of downloading a dvd just to archive it? waste of HD space imo
if i want to watch something and delete after i download an xvid version which is 7 times smaller than a dvd and is almost identical to the dvd quality, no need to mount, convert or burn, just download, unrar, watch, delete (not mentioning that xvid works perfectly in my dvd player).

The real reason for the splitting of files was because back when they first started pirating, people would download and get corruption errors. Thus rendering the whole download useless. So they split it up into pieces, so now if you get a corrupt download, you only have to re-download that specific part rather then the whole thing.

Also with newsgroups which is another 'high area scene' there is a limit to how much text can be stored in a file (very small) so they break it up.

Plus there are some compression factors too. Saving space and such.

Just download winRAR and right click on any of them and go Extract here. Your done.
