i need to buy a laptop... suggestions?
I need to buy a laptop for my Financial Profiling class. All I ask is that it is not slow, can run excel and have wifi so i can get on the school's wireless internet. I don't want to spend a lot of money because I'm not going to be using it often other than school. Can I get any suggestions? Thanks!
i can hook you up with what you need... give me a sec.
this would be perfect for you: http://www.gateway.com/products/GCo...d=nx570x&seg=hm
while there is one $100 cheaper, this one is really worth the vaule. Now since XP is no longer availabe, its good to have more memory. No need for a security package. Some of the free stuff out there is actually better.
$649.

MacBook.
=)
I was going to post something, but what john brought up is a really good deal. Dell usually has some great deals, and I trust them especially for repairs, usually are easily to replace since they all use the same parts. But as of now...follow john hehe

Yes, but no OS X, not to mention other useful patents.
It's all up to the user, like you said.
This user would not want to be running Windows XP 2.0...erm, I mean Vista.
Yea def, the way karen described this computer, it will be more of a textbook expense....I don't believe a macbook will fit this category for just one use.
I love macbooks to death, they replace most pc's (well not for games) but I can never see them as the business computer.
Simple, cheap, fast and doesn't matter what happens to it...sounds like thinkpad or gateway, I would baby my mac for everything its worth.
Meh. I suppose. When she said she didn't want to spend a lot of money, I didn't think a thousand bucks is a lot of money for a notebook. I spent over 3k on my MBP, so I understand *that* being a lot of money for a notebook.
I guess eBay's always an option, when you're trying to value shop.
thats a pretty good price for that gateway, ull get a but load of pre-installed software just make sure you delete it, i would also trash works and get openoffice its just as good as office, and its FREE it also supports excel sheets.but if ur scratching 4 pennys u can get a cheap celeron no need for a dual core if ur just using it for word processing.

I love this laptops compact size (14" widescreen) and it's been super reliable. There are other models with bigger screens of course. The big downer is there's no PC Card slot in it so can't really add addons, but guess that's why I get for getting a small laptop.
i was thinking to get something like this. i major in finance and sometimes it is tough and takes long to put things in pc when u see in class, so u can just draw it in this case. i have never used any of these though, so i wouldnt know if they are good or whatnot.

Go to a store and test something like this out first. Because tablets can be TERRIBLE at being able to make what you write into it legible. Also, response time can be terrible too.
We bought some for editors one time and returned them, but sure they are much better these days. I'd just try to test it out first.

wait till presidents day... i hear theres gonna be crazy deals on laptops then. a few weeks ago all the stores had laptops with XP on clearance, you could have got a decent one for like $400-500.

Using a HP DV1000 series laptop now (mainly because I had a chance to get a centrino duo at work while working at a convention because we needed an extra laptop as an emergency and the macbooks had been recalled at the time) and much more reliable than the Thinkpads were. I usually take home a small 12" Uniwill model from work if needed.
I would go mac but if thats out of your price range I like the thinkpads a lot.
