Recording vocal/mic

Simple problem and I am looking for tips/suggestions

Lately I have begun recording vocals for my tracks, what I do is I mute my speakers pop some headphones on my ear... listen to the track through the headphones and sing into the mic going along with the beat...

The only problem is, I can hear the beat actually bleeding through my headphones and recording into the mic. I have brand new sony mdr-7506's and they are well insulated, any tips on how vocal recording should be done? I'm thinking there may be a more efficient way to approach this

thanks for any suggestions!

no, you got it right. Lower the volume on your headphones.

Most often it's the high frequencies that bleed through. Try putting a temporary lowpass filter or EQ on some elements of the track or maybe mute the highhats. And obviously you can just lower the volume of your mix.
