Thumbs up Just got a job

just wanted to share my joy right now

i just got a job writing music for a documentary. This is my second time in a project like this, and the pay is really good. I'll be doing mostly ambient and electronic music (with maybe some subtle film score elements as well) when it complete i'll try to post some clips.

just a side note, the money is in tv related stuff. The unfortunate reality is the best electronic song ever could make like $500, where a tv or media gig will pay a lot more!

How would you get in to something like this then, create a portfolio of your music then approach Agents who specialise in music/sounds work?

Not bad. I have had a play about lately trying wee things like that and some things i think would sound good in a game. Wouldnt mind this sort of job but my production skills are not at a high enough standard yet.

unfortunately i can't offer you much advise in that department. I actually received this job by chance. I met the producer of the film while at university, and got lucky that way.

I'm personally not even sure how i'd look for a job in this field, but a portfolio could never hurt. Check out www.taxi.com they have job listening posted, however there is a membership fee in order to apply for jobs.

That's how a lot of these things happen, meeting someone by chance. A while back, I had a cinematic classical music page on soundclick.com, and was asked to score a horror movie, for free. It probably would of meant some good exposure, and possibly more work later on. I decided it wasn't worth my time, as I didn't really know if it would of end up getting me more work. Not only that, the movie was way graphic and bloody, very hard to look at. LOL!

As far as I know, getting with an agency is the best way to go if you want steady work scoring media productions. I have no idea even where to begin with that. But anyway, yep, scoring media productions is where the money is, if you can manage to weasel your way into it. I enjoy composing classical music, I sure hope I can put that to use one day. Soudclick.com offers the option of licensing or selling your music. The only problem is you have to somehow get people to find your page amongst the thousands there.

Congrats, that would be cool!

I was watching this TV program and they talked about a pro software program they use in managing the music used in a movie. It lets them select different types of music depending on the exact situation at any point in the movie. Uses a huge music library.

im not saying it works but i know a bloke who got into this industry by faking music degrees and experiance, but his music was shit hot so if they found out they wudnt care

i actually have a Bachelor of Music Degree, and to get a job like this, its pretty much useless, i got the degree to become a teacher, but making music is my hobby (and getting to make some money on the side for something i love doing is great!)

when someone wants to hire you for a gig, you could have a PhD in music and it'd make no difference if you can't produce good music.
