CDJ1000 vs SSL

Up til now I've always used vinyl, but now that I have money I've decided to add either a pair of CDJ1000s or SSL to my setup, I'm currently leaning towards SSL, but can anyone tell me if the CDJs have any features/capabilities that I wont get with SSL (or vice-versa)?

As far as I can tell there aren't many differences between what they can do, and once I factor in the cost of a new laptop, there wont be a huge difference in price between the 2 options, which is why I'm sitting on the fence a bit.

i think SSL is just there to play tunes,,so with TTs n SSL you can only do what TTS do..

My preference is 1000's. I just don't like to think about all the hooking up and unhooking I'd have to do working in a club using SSL.

I know that's not really what you asked - but I thought I'd add my opinion (and probably start an argument... grrrr....)

if you're a longterm vinyl user you're gonna love SSL. yeah, there is a little mess with wiring and hooking up, but I think its worth it. you can do loops and hot-cues on both SSL and CDJs so its only a matter of your love of "the feel of good ol' vinyl"

Everything you can do with a CDJ you can do with SSL. Hooking up SSL while another DJ is mixing is easy. It just takes practice. I would go with SSL because of what's coming ahead with it. Pretty soon SSL will support Midi and video. Also, with SSL, there is no longer a need to burn CD's. You can carry your entire music library with you.

After owning and playing on cdj 1000's i would never ever ever want to deal with a laptop and SSL.

i was in the same boat mate, SSL without doubt, you wont regret it. SSL is what you need, its all about the vinyl. 100% SSL.

I have serato. And as much as i love it and swear by it, I need a pair of CDJ 1000s. Serato will add alot of versatility to your set-up, but I think CDJs are the way to go if you can afford em. Features like cue points and looping, along with loop cutting are just easier with CDJs, rather than clicking a trackpad on a laptop.

haha, I should have known it would be totally polarised. Cheers for the info though!

I suggest go with the CDJs

when i used ssl I always found myself a zombie looking at the screen and not feeling the music with every part of my body. You won't feel as fulfilled wtih SSL

^ BAM! that about sums it up.. end of thread.

I think it depends what your intentions of using it/them is/are. If you want to take all your music with you to a club/party that is providing all of the equipment, I'd go with SSL. If you intend to use the cdjs at home and also take them to parties where there is no gear supplied, then they might be a better investment. I think you should first examine how and where you would use them before deciding.

instead of creating a brand new thread i thought i could insert this question in here.

I have a pair of cdj 100's and was wondering how well ssl would work with them considering they only have cdj stutter mode. if compatibilty was an issue i was thinking of purchasing cdj 800s and djm 800

I don't think compatibility would be an issue, but if you have enough money for (pretty much) a new setup, I might go for that. The cdj-800s and djm-800 will future-proof you more than SSL.
