oh shit someone can spell quiet!

i would suggest looking in the paper and get some shite bike (like a 500 or so) for 3-400. you are a new rider and this will familiarize you with riding. then after riding for 6months go buy a 600 used off ebay or something.

Talk to "No_Gravity" they seem to have good knowledge about bikes. Oh wait, it was banned.

Try www.cycletrader.com or www.cyclefocus.com or www.sportbikes.net and go in the for sale section on that forum. You can always try ebay and craigslist too.

Bikes are a lot of fun, i've got an 01' Honda CBR F4i. Even though we don't have many twisties here in Chicago but it's still fun to go for a ride thru downtown on a summer night.

thanks for replies so far... gave me some stuff to look at.

for buying new: are there any models in the $2000-$3000 range that are worth a shit or would it be better to buy used?

u dont want to buy new if you have never owned one before. If you do and you drop it then its all messed up and you have wasted your money. I would buy used and after a while sell it and then buy new.

Well your not gonna get much power for that price range. Like for example a Ninja 250. I mean it's a good starter bike but you'd get hungry for more power real quick. If i was you i'd get a used 600cc such as an Yamaha R6, Suzuki Gsx-R 600, Honda CBR f4i, or 600rr, or a Kawaski ZX-6R. If you could bump up your spending limit to $4,000 you could probably find one of the bikes i mentioned. Also go for fuel injected not carbureted. Most 2001 and up bikes are.

My CBR has been my first bike (i bought it used in 04)and for the past 3 years and i'm still satisfied with the power, looks, and handling of that bike.

rktyr has given some advice i would have given but your a NEW rider. you NEED to get used to riding in general. as he said you will get hungry for power real quick. this is my EXACT reason for saying spend 3-400 on a shite bike. gets ya in a bike and your not spending a bunch of money just getting it to then get rid of it 6 months later. also insurance will be cheaper.

get a kawasaki 500 tourer from early to mid 90s. you will get it cheap. and they are everywhere.

http://adcache.cycletrader.com/5/6/1/86710861.htm

try that. its a good buy. sport tourer so not a full on sport bike but not a straight up tourer. its not heavy not light. good starter bike.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Feb-15-2007 00:38:

i should say thats a REALLY good starter bike.

Posted by L.E.N. on Feb-15-2007 00:41:

Get a Suzuki SV650S Its a great starter bike with plenty of grunt (buy used)..once your tired of it you can almost make your $$$ back and step into a faster bike. Dont get a crotch rocket as your first until you learn how they work or you will learn the hard way. The sport bikes are real touchy. Also get the propper gear. No shame in a full set of leathers. The squids that ride in shorts and a tee shirt will endup learning the hard way too. You can deal with a roadrash for the next 4 months or you can walk away with just bruses. Dont skimp on gear either...saftey is worth every penny.
