The Grey Cup, in future will be called..

the fn geniuses running the CFL are going to sell the rights to the name of the grey cup. In future, for a measly ten million or so, a company will be able to have the event named after them. For example, The Rona Grey Cup, The American Express Grey Cup (the irony), etc. I haven't watched football in decades, but the thought of this somehow makes me feel really, really dirty...corporations suck the bag.

So what?

It's a tool to generate revenue for the league.

Every sports does this.

This is the first professional league to do so. It's like saying the leafs won the Mastercard Stanley Cup...can't wait for that, but wait, it'll be called the Mastercard Stanley Cup before the Shitty Leafs ever win it. It seems to me that there are enough advertising opportunities without having to have a corporate logo in front of the name of the event. Nothing like washing over 98 years of history for a few extra bucks, which, in all likelihood, will be wasted. I refer to it as class, but hey, one man's garbage...

everything you see these days is a fucking advertisements for something or the other. i was watching deal or no deal canada and they got howie to call the phone the "rogers phone" and then a rogers logo suddenly appeared on the tv. fucking pathetic but this is the world we live in today so get used to it.

No worse than the Taco Bell Dana Carvey Show, I guess... I think they cancelled that midway through the first show...

NEXTEL NASCAR
lol i hate them both.

This would be completely unlike the Rogers Blue Jays, or the Sirius Raptors, or the BCE Maple Leafs. Or the USGA (American Express), or the Stanley Cup (RBC), or NASCAR (god only knows).

Ooooh, it's the big bad evil CORPORATIONS! Everybody duck and cover, nuclear war is only a few hours away!

Every single team already has at least one corporate sponsor, as do the associations which control just about every other professional sport. In fact, the associations themselves are corporations.

Who cares?
