how was rauhofer?

whats the verdict?

Posted by English Rachel on Feb-17-2007 17:58:

Packed.

And $50 for me to get in.

Cajimere Wray was fabulous but Rauhofer was boring, repetitive, monotone tribal that didn't light my fire at all.

Posted by samhouse on Feb-17-2007 19:26:

disappointing to hear
cajjmere continues to impress...

should check out his new tune called exscatsy queen at beatport

Posted by TJB on Feb-17-2007 21:33:

Definitely not what I was expecting from him. Left around 4 cause I was way to tired.

Heard it got so much better at about 5.
These are the nights that I wish I would wait it out. But oh well.

over all a fun night...great vibe, everyone was in the mood for a party..the music was ok at best, expecting more...growing tired of repetitve tribal though..sometimes its almost as if the dj is thinking "ok, everyone's wacked out on drugs, think i'll let the cd skip for 10 minutes" meh, work for your money and mix it up

too bad about sonic closing...it's a great club

Was nice to meet you, even though I don't think you knew it was me...

why??

Posted by English Rachel on Feb-18-2007 01:49:

I think it was $40 at the door anyway and I was not on gl as it was a last minute decision....

Posted by Big Boss on Feb-18-2007 02:04:

I'm pretty sure I saw English Rachel, but I didn't say hi.

Anyway, I enjoyed the party, but thought Peter wasn't really into it. (He has a big party tonight at Roxy in NYC so I think he was focusing on that). He ended at exactly 8am because he had an early flight out of Toronto, so I don't think his heart was into it as much.

Cajjmere Wray played a great opening set and I think this guy is going places.

Last night was a showcase of Peter's new productions...just look at his monthly chart on his website, and you'll see those are all the tracks he dropped.

The place was really busy, but I hope it's not the last hurrah for Sonic.

Explain. Was there some sort of announcement made or something?

Posted by tarrantella66 on Feb-18-2007 02:28:

Yes, it was $50....

A last minute attempt to grab the money and run from a crowd that they so blatantly tried to alienate.. Dumb step if you ask me... They had a gold mine with the gay crowd and failed to realize that. I wonder what would have happened if they have moved the straight crowd to friday nights instead (since they were the minority anyway)...
Peter Rauhofer was OK after a painful first hour of unnecesary techno beats... He found his groove somehow later on but not worth the $50...
His performance was (and never is, anyways) anything special...

uh. glad I didnt go.

agree 100%

why do you think roxy and crobar and stereo esp do so good and REMAIN open. I dont even need to go in it. just stupid decisions overall, i just saw it going down and down and down as the months went on.

kick it back to summer/fall 2006. oh damn that place was rockin then.

Hahaha. Indeed. The place was as packed as I have ever seen it, and with people paying $40-50 to get in, the club definitely saw a much needed cash infusion....

I'm quite surprised to read the so-so reviews on Rauhofer. I thought he was terrific, and by the look of the crowd, it seemed like almost everyone was enjoying themselves. Cajjmere Wray was definitely "on" as many people have noted -- the place was rockin' when Peter came on....

Rauhofer Saves Sonic. Guess not....

How is $50 a cash grab?

$35 dollars in advance, more at the door...

It's not a cash grab at all...it's the going rate for this DJ...some people in here need to give their heads a shake...

We get it...some of you don't like Sonic, and you'll be glad to see it close...point made...now move the fuck on!

Posted by GrooveBuff on Feb-18-2007 21:39:

ya Rauhofer is an expensive DJ.

you get what you pay for.

i don't understand all these little kids that don't understand the costs that are involved with getting such big talent. Everyone wants in free and/or to pay 10$ or tops 15$ to get into a club with an amazing dj.

You're right fairy godfather, some people need to check themselves!

Posted by CandyGirl on Feb-18-2007 22:55:

Rauhofer was great, but it was just way too hot inside for my liking, which made his set tough to appreciate... at the beginning at least. I would dance for 15 minutes or so, then had to stop cause I was overheating. It's tough to appreciate a set when you have take 100 breaks for air.

At about 5:30 or so, Sonic finally started to cool off & the last 2-1/2 hours of Rauhofer's set was really good... slamming hard beats... exactly what I was expecting to hear from Rauhofer. I suspect the first part of his set was equally engaging, but the heat was just too distracting to overcome.

After seeing last night's turn-out, it's hard to believe that Sonic is closing. I haven't seen this many people stick it out until the end since Sonic's opening... and the coatcheck line was so long it went right up the stairs!

Somehow, someway, I wish Sonic could remain open. I realize it all comes down to economics, but after seeing last night's turn out, you'd think there was some way to make it work.

Posted by tarrantella66 on Feb-18-2007 23:19:

It's obvious...

It's obvious that the gay crowd, the one crowd that so many people around here complain about, are the ones who support (and bring the coins to) the club EN MASSE.

Best time I've had at sonic yet...
Club was the most packed Ive seen since the opening/May event of Chus and Ceballos...

Good crowd, good music, wicked vibe... worth the last minute decision of $50...

Hot party
