Mummy, theres a terrorist in my peanut butter...
Mmm, peanut butter, how sweet and innocent it is and a staple of good old fashioned fatties American diets everywhere.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - All Peter Pan peanut butter bought since May 2006 should be discarded, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Friday in a statement broadening its warning about salmonella-contaminated peanut butter. More than 290 people from 39 states have become ill in the food poisoning outbreak, and 46 have been hospitalized, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

Every year, approximately 40,000 cases of salmonellosis are reported in the United States and about 600 people die of it, according to the CDC.

quote:
If we cannot protect the nation's supply of peanut butter, one must ask how prepared we are for a terrorist attack on our nation's food supply," Michigan Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak said on Friday.

I had a jar of that Penut Butter, ate about half of it already, the serial code matched up with the recall. So either I am a bad ass mofo, or some people are just weak and this is a way to thin the herd.

It's peanut butter jelly terror!

Apparently, the hummus was jealous of PB's new fame...

Supermarkets recall hummus after salmonella found in tests By Anthony Barnes Published: 18 February 2007 Scientists were probing the source of a salmonella scare last night which has led six major food chains to withdraw hummus products. Tesco, Sainsbury, the Co-op, Somerfield and Waitrose all removed tubs of hummus after the bacterium was discovered in some Marks & Spencer own-brand products during routine tests. The M&S brand is supplied by Bakkavor, an Icelandic firm, which also prepares food for the other stores. A spokeswoman for Bakkavor said it was investigating its raw materials, the finished product, and its manufacturing processes. "This work is being carried out in conjunction with a number of independent scientific laboratories," she said. The firm would not say how many pots of hummus were being withdrawn, although it is estimated to be tens of thousands. The recall affects own-brand hummus and flavoured varieties at each of the six stores. Customers are urged to return the products for a full refund. A statement on Bakkavor's website said: "During routine testing, salmonella was discovered in two varieties of hummus manufactured in one of the group's factories. The cause is related to a raw material." The firm said it has received no complaints and the withdrawal was a "precautionary measure". It apologised for any inconvenience. M&S is withdrawing all date codes while the other chains are withdrawing hummus products up to February 28. Concerned customers should contact Bakkavor's care line on 0800 023 2960. |
I've eaten dog in Korea and what I think was cat in Vietnam, neither where very tasty. Don't recommend them.

Actually the funniest thing about tracking down this news story was parsing through all the US local news services just as a drunken experiment to see if some proverbial nut would think Peanut Butter poisoning could be linked to terrorism by the media.
(Apparently it can be!
)
But the interesting thing is that fairly much all of them have a sidebar which has 'War on Terror' dedicated sidebar on their web pages, if you ever needed an in depth coverage or forgot it was there. 'Tis handy I suppose from a number of perspectives.
Keeps the locals in a ready state of paranoia/fear
'War' with resistance movements usually takes decades
It obfuscates local issues with overseas events which are apparently more important
Has the potential to be one long running joke about turning anything ordinary into a 'Blame the Terrorists!'

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
I wish more people would read in this country.....and would pick up that book.
Sigh.
MrS
The movie actually was one of the few that did the book any justice too, so it might get absorbed a little better with the AV-Generation
But even in this day and age I doubt it would get any large tele-presence from the US media.
It really does slice that deep to the bone in terms of political criticism.
LOL this article and convo made me laugh
im glad i didnt eat any peanut butter last week
/// off of topic///
something which always and still amazes me when im in the US is to see some ladies are asking for some low fat sugar or "fake sugar" and if they cant get them.....they give up for example buying a coffee ....or whatever
or when people ask in restaurant low calories drinks.....i dunno it sounds wierd to me like when i go out to restaurants i dont think about restricting myself like "i will only take a salad and half a apple " ....i go there because i want to enjoy a good moment with friends or family and as well a good meal
.....i mean we can diet every others days right?
btw good to see u lilith
