REVIEW: Chris Fortier @ Sonic

To set the record straight.... Chris YOU ARE THE MAN. Sonic, its a shame that you are closing because you are a very nice club. But whats even more of a shame, is that last night you failed one of the greatest djs in the world by inviting him into your dj booth without providing him with the neccessary tools he needed to do the job that he came to do. Please explain to me the reason why you couldnt have had one of your engineers make sure that the turntables were properly calibrated with fully functional needles. Putting Chris in that booth last night was like putting Leonardo DiVinci infront of a canvas without a paintbrush and telling him to paint the Mona Lisa. Everybody who knows Chris Fortier, knows that he still plays 90% vinyl, so I ask you where were the engineers when it was time to set the booth up for Chris? This is especially frustrating because it has been a long time since he has graced Toronto with his presence. And it is truly a shame that he finally comes to play and gets let down by a club of your stature. Lastly, we love you Chris!!!!!!!! Please dont hold us against our city...please come back. YOU ARE THE MAN!

DJ Three's set was simply mindboggling. Wow, wow, wow. Defintely a huge surprise. If anyone ever gets a chance to see this guy play in the future, I would highly recommend it....

Great booking.

WOW man. Seriously, AGAIN.. I feel your pain! Unfortunately that's the way the industry has evolved. Not say that Chris hasn't, but the way business is run these days, they're trying to stay ontop of everything they can as well. It's too bad that plastic platters have almost completely taken over the wheels of steel, but I couldn't agree more that clubs should still be more than equipped to provide a dj with the 'basic' neccessities like needles and proper working equipment. I can't tell you how many gig's I've shown up too only for the dj preceeding me to ask me if I brought my needles?

Really?? AM I supposed to provide my own fucking needles now???
PFFT!!!!

[end rant]

ps. Nonetheless, wish I coulda been there

Jon, stop being a Prickasso

After we were joking in the Sonic booth the weekend before "why do they even bother installing turntables anymore"

Fortier needs to get over it, stop wasting his money on dubplates, and move to CDs.

I agree though, the turntables should have been ready to go.

I donno about you guys but i just got kindaa diappointed of the night & honestly this is the first time im complaining after being @ Sonic for pretty much all the good venues ,
maybe i was just expecting too much...

Personally i didnt like Chris's Fortiers set at all, i dont know where he was going with his sit , but if what u guys saying is true , that simply explains everything ,and It is really a shame for a club for not providing turntables for such a DJ ..
Chris is awsome and he proves it with every single sets he drops , why this should happen to him here @ Sonic ,that's sad ...

about DJ three's set ,it was good ,but still nothing too impressive (i donno maybe it was just me again) ... he dropped some really good tracks thou ...

& also about the crowd , meh ... well i just been too negative better not to comment on that one ...

Although it was very nice too meeting some of TA's , Jeff tnx a lot for taking care of us @ the door , & Birthday boy (Chris) wish u had enough fun ...

Btw , hearing "Darko remix" of Booka-shade @sonic's speakers , which DJ3 dropped was reallyy sweet ,this track is one of my top favourits these days ....

plzzzzzzzzzzzz don shut down our Church ,we lovee u SONIC

yes you should have been there.
4am txt to find out where the hell you are

I got there around 2am and surprised Cribby. (and Kris too)
Although I was on the roll call, I bailed last minute and then felt bad so ended up showing up despite how I was feeling.

I am glad that I did. I had a fabulous time. The music was great. Chris Fortier was great. I loved a good portion of his set. It flowed well. Minimal all over the place Then I don't know where that vibe went, but around 430-5ish I started to lose what was in there earlier in the night. (maybe it was just me) I ended up leaving just after 6am to head to Zone.

But all around, second time to Sonic and I must say I really do enjoy the club and it was another successful night for me

I thought Chris was just OK - a bit ploddy, but you could see he was having issues in the booth. I enjoyed DJ Three much more, seemed to carry a flow a bit better and had a bit more energy behind the music.

Was an average night out for me - not amazing, but not bad either.
