Jorge Esposito - Not Crap, no really, it's not - 19.02.07 - [prog and whatnot]

Here's my set that i've been meaning to record for quite some while, but haven't got round to it because i've been way too busy. got it recorded now that i have winter holiday. the set consists of some prog. trance and something else too, dunno what to call every one of them.
anyway i'd really appreciate some feedback on this one. if you think it's crap then tell me / if you think it's good then i want to know too and give some reasons why.

edited disclaimer:
the word crap was the only word i came up with when taking the pics for the cover and doesn't in any way reflect the quality of the tracks or mixing. i personally think this set was rather good and would really like to know what others think.

here's the tracklist:

01. dj orkidea - have a nice this moment (intro)
02. marco v - the funk battery
03. espen & elusive - shexy
04. miss ann - dreamland
05. group therapy feat. nat leonard - my own worst enemy
06. medway - trauma (todd sargent remix)
07. the aircrash bureau - don't expect me to forget you (antiloop remix)
08. perwert - symphonic (simon london vs. beats inc. "seek help!" mix)
09. martin h & oliver klein - club game
10. mara - one (144 mix)
11. way out west - don't forget me (slam return to mono vox mix)
12. santiago nio - big risk
13. remy - dustsucker

i know the tunes are not the freshest ones around, but i don't give a fuck about that. they're all tunes i like so i decided to play these. and we all know djing isn't about playing the newest tunes, but playing what's good.

i even made cd covers for the mix because i got this "great" idea of how to make them yesterday. letters on the front cover consist of the pretty lights in my mixer.

front:

back:

the mix is 78:02 long and it's 192kbps mp3 so it's about 110MB.

here's the link for the mix: download
here's a link for the cue sheet: dl.cue

big thanks to SPAWNmaster for hosting these once again!

edit: mixed live at home with the gear that you can see on the covers (or not)
2x cdj-100s
vestax pcv-175 rotary
sony mdr-7506 (not in the pics)

nice!

Posted by skip on Feb-22-2007 22:56:

so no one's interested then (except robin)?
the mix title really doesn't say anything about the mixing or tracks. it was just meant to be something funny as it was the first word that came to my mind when taking the pics for the cover. so don't let that put you off from taking a listen.
and if you take a listen and comment i'll be sure to return the favor by commenting on your mix (so i'm no asshole, who just takes and doesn't give)

I'll definitely give this a listen, mate.
Taking exams at the moment though, so it might take a week or so, before I get the chance to listen and review.

Thumbs up

I enjoyed it, nice flow. I wasn't going to listen but I saw shexy on there so I did. Dreamland is a great track, never heard it before.

I don't care for electro influenced prog tracks but that's my opinion. If you have an hour you can listen to my latest. Its OK but not as good as crap

Music style was not exactly my cup of tea, but the set is done very well, so I could really enjoy most parts of it.
Technically very good mixing!

thanks for the feedback guys, i really appreciate it.
IcyLogik, i'll definitely check your mix out and give you feedback on pm or on a thread here if you decide to post one.

one thing about the tracks though. i personally wouldn't class them as electro influenced prog, except maybe the slam remix of don't forget me. but i do understand that not everyone likes similar stuff though and that's just fine with me.

pm is good. i dont make threads

Great set! That's one killer tracklist, exactly the type of stuff I like to listen to. Mixing is really on point too. All in all great stuff!

Hey Buddy.

You almost got me back to trance!!

Nice build-up and killer tunes at the end

Posted by skip on Mar-13-2007 14:00:

thanks both for your reviews! i really appreciate the feedback (negative and positive).
and i'll check your sets as soon as i get round to it, IcyLogik and DuBam.

hehe. thanks. i'll mix a new set soon (as soon as i have at least some free time, but first i gotta wait for one cd to arrive though). it's gonna be different from this one though as it's house.
anyways it's always nice hearing feedback. i just listened to my set travelling in a car yesterday and noticed some things i'll do differently next time (and a few minor slips too).

nice set, very good mixing and flow, didn't like the intro, but other than that, its all good.

thanks for the feedback. the intro has been something most people haven't liked. only a few of my finnish mates have liked it as they can understand what's being said, but most of my finnish friend's haven't liked it at all. i personally love it, but then again it's my set so it's no wonder
anyway i think i gotta think about the beginnings of my future mixes a bit more.
