Growing into your sound...or just maturing?
I dunno whats been going on with me recently, but i think im either growing into the sound i like or just maturing. for example currently im loving Satoshi Tomiie's livesets, yet about 2 years ago i heard a liveset from him and couldn't listen to it for more than 2 mins. the same with Holden, now im fuken lovin his shit too. i hardly listen to trance anymore but i still love it. still love hard trance too. but i was wondering do you just grow into one sound (i.e. house/trance/DnB/breaks)or do we evolve into diff styles at diff times never staying on one style of edm? i constrict it to edm because its such a huge field of music.

, you and I probably think the same in that trance was our first love, but we still need to know what else is out there. That's a good thing.
i think most djs start out playing trance. i know i did and most other club djs i talk to say the same thing. you start there, move into progressive and end up in house - these are the guys playing the clubs. s lot of people stay in progressive. its good to get some diversity
I was stuck in trance...then Four.2 & that August '05 30-min promo came along, and I haven't looked back since
. Even now, though, my tastes are constantly evolving. I wouldn't say changing, because it's not like I'm bouncing around between genres...just going deeper & deeper into the world of music that's just of higher & higher quality....IMHO.

W3rd.
Good thing you brought this up rapfiend. I also experienced the same thing too and am still in the process of seeking other forms of electronica, simply because everytime I hear something from someone I didn't like 2 years ago, it's now gotten to the point where I find myself hitting the "repeat track" button on the track and/or set. A good example, being Armin V. Buuren. When he brought out Boundaries of Imagination, I just could not bear the sound of annoying synths and high pitched keys, not to mention that back in the day I used to be a hardcore punk and almost started a band with some friends from high school. Then slowly, I noticed I always went back and played that track again that caught my attention the first time, for some odd reason. Soon I found myself enjoying his tracks even more.
Same thing with Junkie XL. I always used to think Junkie was waaayyy too mainstream for me and that I just couldn't adjust to his sound. Not until 2005 (Armin/Junkie/Oakenfold gig) did I realize that this guy had a potential to create a variety of sounds that sooner or later would grab a hold of me, especially his remixes. Moreover, Gabriel & Dresden is one duo I hated for the life of me. But then I knew that these guys always threw something in there that made me wanna dance and jam to. That set they played at Bar-Rio 3 weeks ago blew me away. Not only was it the first time I'd seen them live (from which I purposely always avoided their gigs), but it was the first time I knew that these artists and dj's in the world of dance music, no matter what kind of style it is, have one hell of a talent that they KNOW will move a crowd and influence people globally. Even dj's on this board (Steve, Matthias, Dirk, Dave, James, Jake, etc...); I used to ignore the threads they posted up on here as links to their sets when I first joined on TA. But each one of them have impacted me in an unbelievable way that no words can explain the talent these guys have. It is the reason I am a believer of their sound, and is what continues to fulfill my music needs, everyday.

| Originally posted by Dirk W. no, i am not saying that. just saying that most house djs i know got their start in trance and made a progression. not that all trance djs end up there and thanks for the mention carlos |

| Originally posted by Inconspicuous idk what/where that is. As I mentioned when it came up before, I have a friend whose neighbor rents out a pair of beach houses down in Surfside...not exactly the most glamorous place, but it'd be pretty reasonable cost-wise, each one could fit a ton of people (I think the one we stayed in last time had something like 12-14 beds or something...should be plenty, especially if you, Dave, & Dirk share one) and noise/rediiculaseness is a non-issue, as it's right on the beach. but I'm up for whatever...probably |

. Add a drunken friend running over to try to help the [band of what seemed to be volunteer, clueless] firefighters [who kept shooting water over the house] and you have a rather amusing night.

| Originally posted by Inconspicuous bad mental image I think they've each got about 6 bedrooms...& a couple of them have bunks or something...but between the two, it's about 12 bedrooms, 20+ beds or something...and that's assuming everyone makes it to a bed to fall asleep, which I doubt would happen. We had loud music going for the entire weekend without a problem, though the house 2 doors down did burn down in the middle of one of the nights .
