Dunno Trent Reznor (NIN) song leaks conspiracy

Apparently Trent Reznor of NIN is using some very elaborate methods to promote his new upcoming album.

First, a website was found from spelling out bold letters from a tour tshirt. Explained here. And this has led to even more disturbing sites as well.

But whats even more interesting is that 3 new songs from the album have been leaked (seemingly intentionaly). Someone (Trent?) has been leaving flash drives in bathrooms at various stops on NIN's recent tour in europe. The 3 songs are: My Violent Heart, Survivalism, and Me, I'm Not.

More of this is explained at these forums HERE and here

And here are some cool (and creepy) spectral images from some of the mp3s found.

the single "survivalism" is out. very raw sound, very not single like, tough to swallow

Posted by jupiterone on Feb-20-2007 21:11:

Survivalism and My Violent Heart; I hope are the worst of the entire album. If they are meant to be the best of which then I will be dissapointed.

Either way I'm definately going to see them again if they come over to Boston next your and still will be buying this album...

In my opinion Trent is pretty much a musical genius as he is and his studio is literally mine blowing...

I had to post all those...yes i did

Posted by stren on Feb-20-2007 21:14:

thanks for posting them

damn, if i was there, i'd be tempted to...

push buttons

Posted by jupiterone on Feb-20-2007 21:15:

I wonder if he'd get pissed If I took a hammer to all those things he's got there...

Nah, I think it's all worth pocket change to him

Posted by shaw on Feb-20-2007 21:16:

he looks like he's cut back on the roids a little bit

i love the quake themed wall

IMO, he's a relic by now. Unless he somehow manages to suddenly master a whole bunch of theory he never has before, or busts out some revolutionary production w/e (which would have to be pretty extraordinary by this point), I don't see much of a point to him anymore. The lyrics have always sucked, the sounds aren't new anymore, and he hasn't grown in the last 5+ years. I'm skeptical, to say the least.

Still a nice studio, though.

Posted by jupiterone on Feb-20-2007 21:31:

Well depends on how you look at it, theres a lot behind his music than just the sounds in it. There are so much shit lying behind tracks that arent really comprehensible, especially in The Fragile sessions and The Downward Spiral which were some of the darkest of his years.

He's an extremely intellectual individual and I dont doubt any of this conspiracy for a second, he's quite the activist in terms of government. I love stuff like this, it really makes his music a lot more mysterious an enjoyable because obviously, there is a lot more meaning behind it than just what you can hear.

He revolutionized music in a pretty intense fashion, from the start that is. It isn't so intense now because everyone seems to be going after the same sound and style in many cases.

My opinion.

Posted by shaw on Feb-20-2007 21:35:

I'm sorry, but I think that's a load of crap. The fact that he put emotion into a song, and has lyrics that convey that emotion doesn't mean there's a lot behind it. In fact, I'd argue that his is some of the most straight-forward music out there. As for the activism part, that sort of thing just annoys me. Make music or be an activist or both. Obviously, the confines of lyrics cannot convey a message more effectively than prose, so why use them to express your opinions, particularly when it means alienating people who might otherwise enjoy the music, itself? Just make something that everyone can relate to--not just the half of the population who agrees with you--then take your gripes to another forum.

Youre entitled to your opinion so I respect it, so we obviously think different about the matter

Edit: Ooh, some chick is getting shot. What in the hell is the point of this?

lyrically, that is. Something doesn't have to be remedial for it to be relatable.

Basically Trent is leaking songs off the album 1 by 1, he really doesn't need the cash since technically don't touring bands with such a tight schedule like NIN make a lot more money by just touring than their album sales? They've sold out worldwide shows a shit load of times too, I remember when I went to see em in boston twice both time it sold out in under 2 minutes after going on sale...

But its got to do with the entire album. Im guessing its more on a political stand point, lots of hidden shit. People are finding pen drives in stalls after shows with leaked new CD quality songs on them with msg's and extra files that basically knit a story together song by song leak by leak.

Its a really neat thing in my opinion, it gets you involved in the work* a lot more and lets you dissect it in ways you couldnt with other albums.

I don't think anyone would argue against you because participating in a refusal so asinine is demeaning to a person's intelligence. It's sort of like how when a young child says something that is obviously incorrect, you let it slide because it's "cute" or "funny" and you are sure that, given time and an iota of indoctrinated mental process, the child will eventually understand the error of his or her ways all by themselves.

Very rarely is somebody's opinion on music "wrong", but I think you've come pretty damn close.

Posted by blazed it on Feb-21-2007 15:44:

so uh how do you take spectral images of your music? and when you do it how do you add crazy images to it?

Posted by capricorn15 on Feb-21-2007 18:38:

where are these pictures coming from?
