Can i use this audio interface to dj?

Hello all, first of all i'm kinda noob at djing on ableton live.

I was recently given a M-Audio MobilePre USB: http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOMOBILEPRE

can i use this interface to dj?

No.
You need two (or more) turntables and mixer to dj.
If you plan on performing live on Ableton, then all you really need is a decent soundcard on your laptop.

so i can't use this interface on a laptop? hmmm dammit.

I was doing my best to sarcastic while trying to stay nice.

If you plan on dj'ing (as in playing other people's music) with Ableton Live, well. There's alot of conversation on it. I'm pro-technology. But being an Ableton DJ isn't really dj'ing. Now if you plan on performing your own tracks (originals and remixes) live in a performance sort of way, then knock yourself out.

To answer your question, you can use that interface, but it's not necessary. As long as you have a decent output going from your laptop, you can connect to any mixer.

ok thanks. now i need to know how to precue through my headphones. i've looked at some tutorials so its not that bad. the only problem is probably because i've been plugging the shit the wrong way.

Your built-in sound card on your laptop probably won't be able to do it. So yes, you do need a separate audio interface in order to output to a mixer and cue in your headphones.

That won't work on your regular soundcard. You're gonna need an ASIO driver and soundcard with two channel outputs.
