About damn time that came into play.

I'm with Rogers...I've been with them for 6 or 7 years now. I've been extremely happy with their service. Their customer service IMO has been nothing but exceptional.

I was with Bell for a year when I first got a cell phone. I had to call them monthly to fix my bill. I know numerous people that have had problems with them. Cale got fucked quite a few times by them last year. Warning: don't trust Bell.

signed up with fido last year. no real problems. reception has been great and the calls are nice and crisp. for those people who mentioned that they have bad reception, the problem can be with your phone and not the network as some phones have better reception than others.

when my contract ends this coming oct., ill prob go to prepaid with fido, since i don't use up that many minutes.

I'm with Bell and I've never had a problem. I like my rates, and I like their service. I guess I'm one of the few who's had nothing but good experiences with them...that includes getting through almost immediately every single time I've ever called customer service.

My brother lives in Toronto and he's with Fido and absolutely loves them. He has a really great plan too.

I was actually thinking the same thing about reception too. It depends on the quality of phone you have. In Windsor telus' reception is always the best, but some telus phones are better than others.

Ya, that's the plan my brother's been on for years now. He loves it. He thought it may be a special deal for Toronto and the GTA though...not positive on that one.

for anybody with any kind of old cellular plan that doesn't exist anymore, you should consider auctioning your plan on ebay, unless you use all the minutes that you have.

city fido auctions for around $700. some of the old fido plans that aren't around anymore, auction for around $300 - $400.

just something to think of..

i have an old fido plan that i love, and refuse to get rid of, but if i was ever tight for cash, i could easily sell it for $400 - $500. just a simple transfer of ownership after that.

I appreciate your advice dood.

Theres no limits with the # of minutes used here, as long as its in the GTA area your monthly bill will be 45 bucks plus taxes :P

read some reviews on ur phone and see if other people have the same problems as you have. googling it might bring up reviews with other carriers, unless u find some in the fido section of howardforums.

btw, here are 2 good threads for learning somethign about retention plans.

Fido Retention Plans

Rogers Rentention Plans

also, here is the link for the Canadian Carriers Forum at HoFo.

hope these help some people.

unless your phone is 4-band phone, the reception won't be perfect, and Fido's reception in particular is crap - where Rogers has full reception bars, Fido has 1 or 0

oh, i'm not saying to get rid of that plan.. if it works for you, keep it. but there is a huge percentage of the population that has way more minutes then they will ever use, and can make some serious coin from selling their plan, and going with a basic $20/month plan.

a fido quad-band phone will give you the EXACT same reception that a rogers quad-band phone will give you. a fido tri-band phone will give you the EXACT same reception that a rogers tri-band phone will give you. they share the same network.

the only difference is that if you are outside of fido's calling area, you will pay extra per minute to use the phone. you pay $5 a month for rogers extended coverage. in most cases, paying the $5 is cheaper then it would be to go with rogers because fido is billed by the second.

I kinda disagree beacause, when i had the sony ericsson z600 phone my reception was really shitty in sum areas plus zero reception in the basement, now im using the sony ericsson k750i its really guud reception wise everywhere even the basement.Even though the plan for the both phones were the exact same one.

So i think its more of a phone thing, not the service provider.

no this is a known fact, 4-band phones with 850 band are the only phones which will work the best, where normally we lose reception - buildings, basements, subway... and its nothing to do with the plan lol

I'm with fido, and have been happy with them. they've screwed up a couple times, but have made up for it

my only complaint is they have no long-distance txting package or deal or anything. its costing me a bundle to txt overseas. arg

Posted by _EuG_ on Feb-23-2007 12:16:

I have Bell Mobility, i switched from rogers to Bell and i am happy with the service. The service area is bigger then rogers, for example when i go to snowboard in different places where Rogers didnt have service Bell does. I scamed my self into a GREAT rate plan that cant be matched by anyone... not even Bell them selves anymore.. so im happy and im not going anywhere.

Posted by urban_legend on Feb-23-2007 14:42:

I have been super happy with Fido, expect for their handsets, I usually buy my own and unlock it. Can't beat 7pm evenings and per second billing. Now that the reception is paired with Rogers you can't beat Fido.

BTW Bell blows goats, screwed up my billing, over charged.

You are absolutely correct. I signed up with Bell in July (I have a three year contract), and I am so pissed off with them. I gave them my new mailing address, yet my bill ends up at the wrong place EVERY month! And because I don't see my bills, I don't know how much I owe, which usually ends up with my service getting cut off for a week at a time.

The good things are:
- unlimited texts
- free incoming calls
- free unlimited local calls on evenings and weekends
- 100 free anytime minutes

Also, I hate my ring tones. And I can't download any good ones onto my phone. Grrr.

yeah, Bell is famous for screwing up bills...you'd think they'd want you're money. Last summer I remember I didn't get billed for 3 months for some reason, then they lump summed my bills together and charged me interest or something for being late..i don't think so!

But I have an awesome plan which I don't want to get rid of...thats the only crappy part. I have unlimited everything pretty much, I even have unlimited Internet browsing and downloading! I sometimes just download shit for the hell of it..i think its like $50 normally for 1mb of downloading and I sometimes download like 5mb just for the hell of it, cause its free

Maybe if bell offers me a rediculously nice phone for free w/ the same package I might keep it...

Same story here. I've had my phone with Bell Mobility since the mid-90s and have not had any problems at all.

My only complaint with Bell Mobility is the lack of cool handsets.

One time Cale got sent 3 or 4 bills in one month...all for his cell phone, and all at different costs. Apparently it happened to a bunch of people. Bells solution: pick which one you want to pay

I dunno if this is on all Bell plans too, but when he was with them, I had a better long distance plan, so I would call him more than he would me to save money. But no...no money was saved. B/c he was charged for incoming long distance calls. WTF.
