claps with delayed echos. in reason 3.0

the subject name is stupid i know but i dont know what else to call

im trying to get this sound/ effect in reason 3 . it was a big sound in tracks a year or two ago.

anyway it is when the clap hits on the 1.1 and the echo of it is deleyed and playing on the 1.3, 2.3, 3.3... and so on.

an example of it is in. "49th line - blue on blue(original/dub)" and also in "summer blossom - blossom(haylon remix) and in "evole - safe to dream(the thrillseekers remix)

ive tried everything i can think of but i cant get it right. hopefully someone can help me out, and im using reason3 remember.

thanks for the help

I'm not sure if this is going to work. I'm not at my own computer at the moment.

You can add tons of delays.
quote:

Delay 1:

0 feedback
64/127 wet
1.3 delay

quote:

Delay 2:

0 feedback
32/127 wet
2.3 delay

quote:

Delay 3:

0 feedback
16/127 wet
3.3 delay

quote:

Delay 4:

0 feedback
16/127 wet
4.3 delay

And so on.

ok, I got it all wrong. But I know how to do it. Not enough brainpower to explain how. I'll do it when I get home from school.

I think its called Gated Reverb.
You have to use reverb on the clap. The trick is to use predelay on your reverb, so that the reverb starts not directly after the sound, but in the offbeat. So go and find the "predelay" control and play around with it. Most of the time, predelay is measured in ms, so you have either to play around with it or to do a little math. A song with 140 BPM has 0.428 seconds per beat. Were looking for half a beat (since the echo sits in the middle), that means you need 214 ms predelay.
But math is boring, I usually do this by feeling and playing around with the predelay.
If the gated reverb sounds lame, you have to adjust the other reverb settings. I recommend a short decay and a high "wet" value.

lol

this is easy, just have you clap sample, have it programmed to play on the 1.1 then route it into a splitter have one channel plug into one channel of your mixer and have the other into a delay unit as wet as possible with whatever delay time you need (i think 1 if you want 1.3, 2.2, 3.3 etc).

or any combo post splitting of signal.

thats why i like reason so intuitive

edit: wait no.

KICK KICK KICK KICK | KICK KICK KICK KICK | KICK KICK KICK KICK | KICK KICK KICK KICK |
CLAP ---- CLAP ---- | ---- ---- CLAP ---- | ---- ---- CLAP ---- | ---- ---- CLAP ---- |

like this?

im getting confused, im hearing to many diffrent things

^^^its like this
1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 4.4....
kick ____ ____ ____ kick ____ ____ ____ kick ____ ____ ____ kick....
clap (clap) (clap) (clap)

the clap is with heavey reverb.but only the first clap is heard regular, the following (claps) is only the reverb, you dont hear the the smack of it. make any sense

but actually Allied Nations that makes sense i haven't tried spliting it yet.

and what is "predelay", if never seen this in reason. or at least it wasnt called "predealy"

im gonna try what you said Allied Nations, amd will get back to you guys

thanks

honzi, that is it exactly.

i tried messing around with the slpitter and got it to work, but i like your a bit more. how did you do it

i opened a redrum and loaded a clap. then sent it through a bit of reverb then split the signal and sent it into a delay with 1 step,
0 feedback, and 127 dry/wet. then sent it to another delay with 4 step, 64 feedback, and 48 dry/wet. then sent the back to the splitter& merger then sent that through another reverb. then to the mixer, done.

is that how you did it?

also thanks for the help everyone.

It's very simple No splitting and merging is needed. In redrum load a clap on the first channel, send it through reverb with a bit of predelay (set it by ear), then send it through the Mclass Compressor. On the second Redrum channel load a kick, and route the output of this channel to the 'sidechain in' on the compressor. Activate the sequencer in redrum and lay a basic 4/4 beat on the kick's channel. On the channel where you got the clap put a single note on the fourth beat. You have to play with the reverb and compression a bit, you got all the settings in the .rns file i posted

And that's it

hey thanx honzi but i dont know how to open rns files, and im not to familiar with with sidechaining, actually ive never used it.
