Sonic closes; Toronto goes back to being crappy
I guess it's not necessarily MTL news per se, but Sonic is closing on March 10th. Sad, sad news. That place was awesome.
Wow, that was short.
11 months to be exact...
that said..
it was BOA before, than 270 SPADINA... David Morales bought it and turned it into SONIC...
I AM SURE IT WILL RE-OPEN WITH A FRESH NEW NAME AND STYLE!
I am sure of it...
The venue, the sound and lights WHERE TOP NOTCH!
you can market a club as something, but the original is unique and unmatched.Plus people in toronto just aren't ready for it.
People in Toronto aren't ready for it? LOL
Clubs in Toronto with Alcohol do not close at 4 am. Most huge venues which hold 10,000 people such as Guvernment nightclub, the Docks etc.. open until 8 am with HUGE DJ Talents. This creates an AUTOMATIC PROBLEM FOR AFTERHOURS IN TORONTO. Unlike Montreal, where ALL CLUBS EXCEPT CIRCUS AND STEREO CLOSE AT 4 AM, THESE TWO CLUBS OPEN AT 2 AM. I Party in Montreal a lot. And same for in Toronto. Yes the vibe in Montreal is better... BUT Do not say the people in Toronto are not Ready. It is like saying Montreal is not ready to be a world class city... Well, you get my point.
Toronto has the largest CLUB DISTRICT IN THE WORLD... (Number of clubs per people...) and when CIRCA officially opens up with 4 floors and 50,000 SQ feet it will be the largest CLUB IN CANADA (and maybe North America)...
Toronto has an afterhours which goes from 6 am Sunday until 4 am Monday NON-STOP! Then another club which opens from 2 am Monday for the official After-After party until 8 am Monday... the best music can be heard at these two places whether they are considered holes or not. That I can guarantee.
SONIC was an amazing club. Sound wise compared to Stereo. It just didn't succeed because of the many clubs in Toronto that stay open past 4 am... No one wants to pay two covers or leave a venue to go to the next venue when both close at same time.
Toronto is READY. the competition is HARSH!

Guv has it right with its hours.. even if its staff is retarded
The day before Sonic announced its closing another electronic club announced its opening.
C'est la vie in clubland here.
Well we still have Footwork Saturdays, which imo is the best place to go party here on a Saturday right now. Very small space, but because of that it has a very intimate atmosphere. Great music too. They don't just try bringing in the big names like so many other places.
Sad to see Sonic go, but not really surprised.
Yes Sonic will close its doors March 10th... But just like the old BOA, 270 Spadina and the now SONIC nightclub, something will re-open in that same space... I am almost certain. ..

OK I MUST RE-STATE THIS:
TORONTO ISN'T READY FOR THIS??? EXPLAIN TO ME WHY STEREO HAS GONE BANKRUPT FOUR TIMES(4X)... WAS/IS MONTREAL READY FOR AN AFTERHOURS? HAVE THE PEOPLE IN MONTREAL GIVEN FULL SUPPORT TO THE AFTERHOURS? YOU ONLY HAVE TWO RIGHT NOW... AND ON A GREAT NIGHT, STEREO HAS ABOUT 400 to 500 PEOPLE. THAT WAS A SLOW NIGHT @ SONIC. I BELIEVE CIRCUS AND STEREO ARE LEFT AND I BELIEVE SOME OTHER CLUBS CLOSED RECENTLY IN MONTREAL? I AM WRONG?

Call the GUVERNMENT COMPLEX what you want. Not everyone likes it. Call it COSTCO with STROBE lights. But with a venue that packs 10,000 PEOPLE ON A SATURDAY WEEKLY... ANY CLUB OWNER WOULD DIE FOR THAT... EVEN COSTCO WITH STROBES... THE MOST STEREO CAN FIT IS 800 PEOPLE AND EVERYONE THINKS "WOW, AWESOME NIGHT!" thats 8% of the volume of the GUVERNMENT ATTENDANCE.
Hahaha, I give up and will not argue with the peeps of Montreal any further. You guys definitely have more beautiful girls in your city and your gay crowd is just not nearly as GAY as our Car Wash Crew party scene. Case closed. You win for sure, now back to TOTA!!!
I can definitely deal with the gays at STEREO compared to the what we came accustomed to at SONIC. EWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!
You and I will never know why SONIC closed, but when one of the major partners pulled out in September without giving a try and cancelling two of his showings... HOW do you expect a club to SURVIVE?
OMG CAPS LOCK
BRING ABOVE AND BEYOND AND DAVE DRESDEN
Toronto is lame maaaaaaaan.
Just a different mentality than here.
I'm an anglophone and even i find it too uptight and english.Plus our whores are hotter. It isn't about how many people, but what kind of people.50 year old asians sitting on the middle of a dancefloor rubbing their faces and praying just don't do it for me.You seem upset...at least you still have the Blue Jays.
case closed...
Now if we spent the same time trying to figure out about clubs etc... Maybe the next big issue is the homeless people in Montreal? That is my major concern right now...
I think is sad Toronto didn't support their Temple of House Music, as I stated in another posting, probably they really want to have only their Temple of Trance.
Anyway, they are always welcome to come to Montreal to our temple - and remember, we don't care about t-shirtless boys over here - just bring your vibe with you, and the rest will be history
RE :: all-nite-freak
I love Montreal. I party there often... I won't let what you are saying affect my love for Montreal... but to say Toronto is lame, shows your intelligence... For you to bash a city as a whole means you where not cut to live here.
There are pros and cons to Montreal and Toronto and that is what makes them both beautiful cities on different scales.
who cares which city had the first club/afterhours or whatever...really?
just have fun in both, fourrer des chiennes and stfu
