Recording from mixer to computer help?

Can someone here help me out....im trying to figure out how to record from my mixer onto my computer... i have it hooked up and stuff (i bought the Y cable, red white cables on one side, regular headphone jack on the other) its not the best way i heard to record your stuff with, but its all i have for now....so i was told to plug it in one of the three coloured jacks either pink green or blue....i just need to know what to do on my computer to actually start recording....

thanks

I record into the line-in input and record onto Wavelab.

But I want one of these...

the last manzone&strong set that i posted that was recorded from the drink in january was recorded with the microtrack. sound quality is amazing with that but its like $400-500cad for one.

Just by guessing alone you have a 33% chance of getting it right on the first try.

Assuming you guess wrong on the first try - you then have a 50% chance of getting your second guess correct.

Assuming you guess wrong on the second try - you then have a 100% chance of getting your third and final guess correct.

Why not just try each one and see if it works?

Download a free wav recording progam like Audacity:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Plug your mixer into the blue jack in the back of your computer, that should be the line-in.

Open the program You'll have to play around with the levels on the mixer to make sure everything is as loud as possible without clipping. There should be little metres somewhere on the screen that show you the levels. Press record to start recording.

Oh, well the original question mentioned nothing about software.

MattColeridge's option is free and should world fine.
