Headphone techniques
Hi...
Im quite new to DJing and ive caught on relatively fast. ive gotten beatmatching down but im not sure if my style of cuing the songs is right.
Ony my mixer I have you can listen to both tracks at the same time through the headfones.... but most DJs use the technique where u have one headfone off and one headfone on ur ear... me on the otherhand, i always have both on my ears since i can listen to both trakcs at the same time
is this a bad habit to get hooked on? should i learn how to cue using the 1 ear technique? If i decide to start playing out... would most mixers have this '2 songs thru headfone' function?
thx
Use whatever technique works for you for best result.
Personally, if I'm cueing and beatmatching, both ears are listening to the headphone. Filters out distracting outside sound better.
Some people can do with just one but that's their style.
(don't get me started with stupid wearing of headphones though, a la Oakey)
learn how to cue different ways, use the one that suits you best

ya but do all mixers nowdays have it so u can listen to both through the headfones?
i thought some u couldnt do that and HAD to do the 1 ear technique
yes, some mixers are unable to mix both channels in the headphones. it is best if you learn to beat match with one ear on one ear off if you intend to play out.
practice on as many different mixers as you can, that way you're ready for anything.

Kenneth Thomas also does it too.
i did a show like that once, had my hair perfect and didn't want to get headphone hair cause i was going out after my set
I use the headphones on both ears most times and hammer the cue buttons a lot.
I also use the 1 ear method depending on the monitors and how accurate they are but I much prefer the accuracy of my headphones
Although, I've been known to Oakie-style it up if I'm just monkeying around and going out later and I've already styled my hair.
i've known guys that'll carry a thing of gel in their record bag to fix up their hair after playing
You people care way too much about your hair.
stays on the head the whole gig.

my v700s are super heavy and hurt the top of my head. I was finding creative ways to wear the headphones too.
Then again I should just get a pair of 7506s.
