Car Wrecks
So how many of you guys have witnessed some nasty car wrecks on the highways or streets of the places you live and travel? Yesterday, I almost got into TWO car accidents, both times not my fault, one scarier than the other.
First one: I was going down the street to go to lunch during work, and this idiot in a van got into MY lane blindly. I honked the horn repeatedly and slammed on the brakes...problem was, where I work, it's all industrial. Gravel, dirt, sand...my car started to slide.
The moron got out of the way and I stopped the car only inches away from him. I barely managed to avoid hitting the curb as well. First close call, but by far not the scariest.
Second one: on my way to Miami last night, I was doing the speed limit on I-75 when an accident involving 2 or 3 other cars happened in the leftmost lane. I was in the 2nd to right lane. A huge black SUV cut across the entire highway after getting hit.....and it was right in front of me.
I swerved immediately to my left to dodge it and ran over part of one of the cars, feeling a MASSIVE bump and jolt. The accident stopped traffic for a good while. I had to stop at a gas station to recover from the shock. Scariest shit I'd seen in a while.
Have any stories?
several every single day
i work in London and commute 45 miles into london and then 45 miles back home using the M25, i see at least one accident daily on the M25 and several minor prangs every day in London
I was on the 110 which is one of the oldest highways in California. You can tell it's old because it's extremely windy and the speed signs all say 45 mph, obviously not designed for today's cars. Anyway, I tend to drive pretty fast down that freeway because its fun and I've got a car that handles like a go-cart. I don't go TOO fast, like 70 or 75 at the most (which is the speed limit on all freeways out here) and I don't cut people off or 'force' them to go too fast becuase it is a bit scary on that road.
Anyway, one night I'm driving home from work (about 11pm) and doing my usual going pretty fast. I guess I pissed off some guy in a Camero because apparently he wanted to race (which I NEVER do anymore because I'm not a fucking moron). So he's going easily 80-90 mph and he's just whipping around the corners. Well he gets into traffic and slows down for a bit and I'm in a lane with no traffic so I pass him. Traffic lets up and he starts flying again, he gets to one turn, somehow manages to swerve from the left most lane across 3 lanes and hit the railing 20 feet in front of me.
Problem with this railing is that it's pretty low, and on the other side of the freeway is the Los Angeles river bed...with no water in it
So he hits the rail, completely flips over, knocks down the protective chain fence and plummets a good 50-60 feet down into the sement ravine. Most fucked up thing I've ever seen.

i didn't see the body, but i recognized the accident when i got home and read about it.
but, these teenagers were speeding in a car that had a sunroof, and i guess being fat played a part, but the fat passenger climbs out of the sunroof to do a lil "angel" pose, but i guess the wind resistance was too much, and he flew out and he bounced off an SUV, then was split in half by the guardrail.
and one time when i was on my way to blockbuster i drove past a car accident and someone was still in the car with a ton of blood on his head. but i guess it was his fault cus he drove a BMW
Aside from a girlfriend in an accident destroying my car a few days ago...
Not her fault, but not happy with the car written off either.
When I wrote off my ZX about, oh 10 years ago now, that car died most impressively running semi-slicks and finding out they have 0 traction in the rain. Back overtook the front and down a hill, end over end about 4 times for about 50metres. It was REAL broken!
For some dumb, god only knows reason I was completely fine, embarrassed to the point of tears but alright.
Seen a motorcyclist go under a coach in Malaysia a few years ago, he and the bike got wrapped around the driveshaft and then spat out underneath the right rear wheels in about 100 different pieces.
That wasn't real nice at all...

1: The most shocking I've ever seen happened near the bus station, a few minutes after sunrise.
A jeep ignored a red light and a bus hit it, having no time to break. The jeep then spun quite a few times, while the passenger's blood started to spray out of his head. He looked lifeless already.
2: We were in a traffic jam, and a guy decided to speed on the pavement. A couple of metres behind our car, the guy wiped out, and hit the car against a wall. According to the police, no one died.
Everytime I've almost been in an accident I was traveling at relatively low speeds.
Me, my wife, and her friend are driving to downtown Dallas to go clubbing on night; it's approximately 11:30p. We are for the most part alone on 183 as we head towards 35. About a mile ahead the highway forks and we need to be in the lane to our right in order to follow the fork downtown. At this point I notice that there is a pick-up truck kind of in my blind spot, so being the nice guy that I am I slow down a bit so that he can pass me and I can merge over. Well he slows down too. So I start to speed up a bit so I can pass him and get over, well he speeds up too. At this point I look at the driver and it's a young kid laughing, prolly thinks we are a car full of girls because my wife and Amanda are sitting on that side of the car (and also because I look like a woman). So I say alright dude I'll holler at you; drop it to third, dust him off, and merge over. So he is still playing games and floors it, pulls up on my left side, matches speeds with me, and then swerves at me HARD like he is going to hit me. Well when idiot jerked his wheel back to avoid hitting me, he loses his back-end and starts to fishtail. We are probably going 65-70 at this point. On his left is the concrete barrier, me to his right, and then two other empty lanes. I immediately hit the brakes when I see him lose control, he fishtails back and forth three or four times and then completely shoots across all four lanes, about 2 car lengths in front of me. Still travelling forward, he goes down into a small ditch and I pass him on the left. Out of my peripheral vision, I see the truck flipping over and rolling at least two times. Dirt and glass is flying in the air, it happened so quickly and it was so surreal but, I can still remember seeing the chunks of sod and glass flying thru the air against the backlight of a car dealership or something. So I pull over to the right and tell my wife to dial 911 and I get out to run back to the truck. I can see that two other cars have already pulled over to assist so I just get back in the car and we continue back on our clubbing adventure. I doubt that driver wanted to see me anyway after his stupid antics.
I just remember how quickly everything happened and how dreamlike it was, and also how UNBELIEVABLY shakey I was after it happened. I was so affected you would have thought I was the one that did the tumbling.
i was too drunk once, in highschool./... came across a bend which i always did a rally style....
i remember saying rally style.. and BOOM... i was goin too fast and i hit a tree smack in the middle of the car... totaled.
it was not fun explaining it to my parents the enxt day.
then i ran over a huge speedbump @ like 50..... nocked some shit off from inside my car, fucked it up for life....
all in all, good times

I have seen far too many ( even seen people I know dead at the side of the road) I have been in afew nasty ones mostly because of falling sleep at the wheel.
Been in a coma for 5 days due to sleeping at the wheel, flipped 3 times then hit a brick wall another time (but drove home after on 1 engine mount and a cracked rim)
Thankfully haven't seen/been in anything serious at all in the 2 and a half years i've been in the road. But came close loooooots of times.
Biggest scare: going home in a fairly empty road, i see a van stopped by the side. I don't give it any importance and blitz through, only for a 7 year old girl to suddenly come out running out of the van, crossing the street, right the same time as i'm going flat out by it, unable to react fast enough. BAM! I brake the car asap, to find the kid totally stunned but completely allright - only the doll she was holding in her hands had been totally destroyed by my car!
Another split second and I would've killed her.
I did once run over a dog going flat out in the freeway though, lol. I was dumb enough to brake hard as soon as I saw it (thankfully there wasn't any car behind me), but couldn't avoid it. I was really shaked that day!

never seen any big accidents, almost got totally h4xed one night though while working delivery
so right on campus (bad driver center, i swear its as bad as boston), i'm coming up to a four way stop
both streets are straight, no big bushes or anything on the corners, so its normally a nice easy fast moving 4-way stop
so its my turn after like 2 cars, and i look left, look right, look left and as i'm moving my head back from looking left i start to go
fucking LUCKY for me i'm a paranoid driver so i always check right as i'm about to go across the right lane and sure enough in my peripheral vision i see something flying towards me so i just slammed the brakes and hoped they were gonna miss me
car full of girls going about 50 (30mph zone for a reason, its a neighborhood with a lot of kids), didn't see the stop sign, didn't even look once
i could feel my car shaking as they flew by me, probably no more than 2 inches from clipping me, not to mention probably killing the driver cause it didn't look like she was belted
that was one of the few times i just sat in the middle of an intersection not moving and no one cared or honked or anything
scared the shit outta me
This was my turbo civic... short nap and 3 flips later, we have this.

Buddy of mine and myself taking off the turbo kit before insurance came to see the car.
This was my sir, I hit a piller sideways while sleeping (hit directly on the drivers door sending my head out the window onto it thus putting me in a 5 day coma.)

Both accidents were between 3:30 am and 5 am right after work, then a bar or two.. but not drinking as much as I used to at the time. Lesson learnt, sleep is important, don't pul 2-3 days without sleep then continue with your hectic lifestyle.
Nobody injured in the splitting of this RS6..
Worst I've done.

One of the worst ones was a 100+ car pile up on the NJ Turnpike a couple of years ago while I was down visiting my cousins.
Then this year I saw a car hanging off the rail of the Gardener Expressway.
Couple years ago I saw a 6 car pile up with a few cars on their side, some others completely upside down.
I've almost been hit head on by people trying to pass. (fucking idiots)
A year or so ago I was terrorized by an 18wheeler during a blizzard. He kept coming up on the right, then coming all the way into the left where I was. I couldn't see shit from the spray, couldn't slow down cuz the car behind probably couldnt see me or anything else either. Couldn't speed up cuz the roads were pure ice. This went on for about half an hour until the douchebag finally got off the highway.
