working out

I'm just curious how many of you people work out on a regular basis (more than 30 minutes, 3 times a week). and if so what kind of exercise do you do?

Thanks,
Dave

I work out about once or twice a week

Posted by Fir3start3r on Apr-03-2002 21:45:

3-4 times a week.
I try for no longer than 1 hr. / 1.5 hr tops.
I usually start with something aerobic like a X-trainer (less stress on your knees as apposed to running on the treadmill) for about 20-40 min. depending on how much time I have.
Then I'll either do upper or lower usually ending off with some ab work.
I've lost over 10 pounds since the beginning of the year and keeping it off.
I'd like to loose another 10 or so which will put me around 180. (I'm just under 6ft; something stupid like 5'11 and a little bit )
The hardest part is watching what I eat. I drastically changed my eating habits since I'm not 20 anymore and my metabolic rate has slowed. I don't starve myself; that's just wrong and only tells your body that it's starving and will slow your metabolic rate right down to store fat.
I do have the occactional 'cheat' day though where I eat what I want.
It's been a slow process for me but that's ok.
I'd rather take it off and keep it off permanently rather than loose a whole bunch of weight and then gain it back just as fast. That would be pretty disheartening.
I guess the main thing I could tell anyone about what I've learned it to be consistant.
It's a waiting game sometimes, but the results will come.
Just in time for summer!

Posted by Ckerr812 on Apr-03-2002 22:04:

I do mountain biking only mountain biking in the summer...And wieght training in the winter.... Kinda balances things out for me...I get really skinny at the end of the summer from all the biking...then add on the punds in the winter with the weights...lol

My personal trainer says not to do that...but fuck it...She dosen't know the joy of mountain biking in one of the most beautiful countries in the world

Posted by tranceaholic on Apr-03-2002 23:01:

apart from this week - i have been lazy- I usually run about 35-50 miles a week, I sometimes weightligft -have not done recently

I run marathons, 3 up to now, 2x Euro-Marathon in Frankfurt, 1x Hong Kong Marathon, best time 3:27:18 in HK this February..
I used to fence 3x week, but have had to cut that sort for more running time..

I do ~ 200 crunches every night...

since other people posted their weights:
I am 6'1" and weight usually between 157 - 165 lbs

Posted by jinxed84 on Apr-03-2002 23:26:

right now is track season for our school and im on the team....im a thrower....(shotput, discus, and maybe javelin) we have practice 6 days a week which starts out with running, stretches, pushups, and either crunches or gutkillers...then we do the event stuff which is just throwing drills and throwing and sometimes sprints yadda yadda....just about every other day...or when its crappy out we go to the wieght room and lift.....my routine consists of

Squats 2 sets 10 reps 235lbs
Cleans 2 sets 5 reps 135lbs
Bench 2 sets 10 reps 155lbs
lat pulldowns 2 sets 6reps 170lbs
curls 2 sets 10reps 85-100lbs
Military press 2 sets 10 reps 135lbs
lat pullovers 2 S 10R 135Lbs
Tricep Ext 2S 10R 100Lbs
Incline Press 2S 10R 135Lbs
Leg press 2S 10R 245Lbs
Leg Ext 2S 10R 200lbs
Leg Curls 2S 10R 140Lbs

i do most of this if not all on avg about 3 times a week...since im a thrower i do alot of explosive leg stuff (squats, cleans(i love these), and leg press).... been doing this for about three weeks and its really paying off..ive lost 10lbs so far and put on a bunch of muscle

Posted by misiek on Apr-03-2002 23:52:

yah..i work out 4 times a week, regularly since december. Weightlifting of course. About 1-1.5h a day, depends on what I do that day.

grrrowl

I work out quite often,
right across the street from us, IronDragon!(FAR)
it's quite a good gym, just do some cardio, and then lift.

cheers
Ilina

Posted by IronDragon on Apr-04-2002 01:10:

grrrowl?

Ilina,

I prefer to workout at WIMPE. Its nice and compact, not as much stuff but less crowded than IMPE (WAY TOO CROWDED!). Never tried FAR. Maybe I will one of these days.

Posted by izzywillynilly on Apr-04-2002 01:53:

i workout 3 times a week (will be 4 times during summer) and run for 40 min. 4-6 times a week
(in this order)
Dumbell Flys
Lat Pulldown
Shoulder Press
Back Extension
Dumbell Curls
Tricep Extension (on the pully's)
Vertical Butterfly
Bicep Curl (on the pully's)
Tricep-pulldown (on the pully's)
Preacher Curl

then another tricep excercise, not sure what its called, but i take a dumbell and raise it over my head behind my back, and raise and lower it with both arms, holding my upperarms straight up and raising and lowering my forearms.

then i go on to run and i'm done, however i don't RUN since that is drastically harmful to your knees, and spine. So i use the elliptical crosstrainer which is basically simulating running but with zero impact.

Arrow

I work out once every other day. What I do is:
-between 20 and 50 pushups (REAL ONES!),
-between 90 and 120 curl-ups (they work better than full sit-ups!!! honest!)
-30 bicep curls with 10LB dumbells (i think..maybe they're in Kilos)
-and run to the bus almost every morning and sometimes to work.

In the summer... MOUNTAIN BIKING ALL THE WAY!!!

and has any1 else here been naked in a jakuzi with a friend and 3 other naked ladies? HAHA!!

Smoking ..umm..something

I've been working out for about 1 hour per day every day with my dumbells for the last month, and it hasn't made a single noticable difference to my muscles!!!

That's really annoying!

The excercises I do each day are:

Alternate bicep curls, with 30lb on each arm, for about 30 times. I do this about twice a day and have done for a month, but no change!!!

Twenty of those gut busting sit ups, the ones where you don't quite lift yourself all the way up, which kill your stomach.

Some excercise which I dunno the name of, where I have 30lb on each arm, and I basically squat, then stand, squat then stand, 15 times on each leg. Again, I have gone through so much sweat and have seen no improvement!

I've also been doing the tricep curls, where I put 10lb on each arm and bent it behind my head. I do this 20 times. I must admit, this is the one excercise I hate doing, cos I keep managing to whack my head, so most days I have skipped this one.

I wish gyms weren't so expensive though, cos you get all the proper equipment there.

By the way, does anyone know a way to excercise the calf muscles, just using a pair of dumbells? Is there any way?

Forward lunges. Keep the dumbells by your side, arms down.... lunge forward on either leg, then back to normal stance. Alternate your lunges, left leg, then right leg.

Also, without any weights... you could balance on the edge of a step, put your toes right on the edge, lower your heels below the step, then raise your heel above the step, should give you a nice burn.

Thanks.

I just found a great site for working out: www.netfit.co.uk

Has very quick loading animations showing how to do each excercise.

lol...yea, that also happens to me...

i havn't been doing much lately, i'll be starting again hopefully soon, need to get back in shape for the summer!

Posted by AnotherWay83 on Apr-04-2002 04:58:

work out 4-5 times a week, about an hour every time i go...but u'd never no if u saw me

im a real hardgainer...takes me forever to gain every single pound..

Posted by JM on Apr-04-2002 07:15:

i remember back in the day....when i was 16, 17....and i used to lift for about 1.5 - 2 hours every day....have a routine....
day one - chest & back
day two - legs
day three - arms/shoulders
abs every day.....

then the routine would repeat itself....6 days a week. on top of that i was in high school, and played waterpolo on the school's team.

now i'm lazy and fat.....working on getting motivation to get into summer shape though

it's definitely nice to think about the days when i was super cut and the girls would feel my six pack and go "oooohhh" and giggle
