Dunno Mauro Picotto: Trance or Techno?

Do you prefer Mauro Picotto's Trancey side or his Techno side? I prefer the Trance side simply because of beautiful tracks like Komodo, Pulsar, Lizard (Megamind Mix), and the breakdown of Iguana. I do love his Techno tracks, though, "Baguette" almost makes me want to change my mind...

Techno easily!
Verdi, La Baguette, Pandoro, New Time New Place etc.

his techno are his only good productions imho

A mix of both like his Trance Energy set in 2001 is the best Picotto ever was. Tbh at that time he was one of the best djs in the world easily. Tracks like "Bangkok" were just utterly savage

Verdi is shit IMVeryHO

Techno. Some of his trance productions were fucking horrific and some were excellent- there was no real consistency. He's usually consistently good at techno.

Picotto's trance energy set was top fuckin class. that was the set that really got me hooked on his sound.

His trance tracks aren't great imo, some of them have decent ideas but tbh they are cheesy as fuck, but they were made for the reason that bxr/media records wanted to follow this type of direction and obviously for the monetery value, picotto has always loved playing and producing techno thats why all his trance tracks like komodo or like this like that, have a load of alternative mixes and thats why he's now running his new label alchemy and doesn't produce on bxr anymore. Unfortunately due to tunes like komodo he's lost a lot of credability, but props to him for not following a direction he had no interest in, and sacrificing a lot more money by taking his current direction.

He's definately one of my favourite figures in dance music and an extremely decent guy to boot.

For the record verdi is his best work anyone who says it's shit doesn't know good music.

i prefer the trance side but some of his techno productions are pretty good too

it was that lizard tune that got me hooked in the first place

His trance productions like Komodo are complete shite, his techno productions are slightly better. But he is a very good live DJ when he plays Techno. I can't get into his trance DJ sets.

his collaborations with Riccardo Ferri are generally mint as well

Actually i only heard his gatecrasher 2002 set, but it rocked
Plus of course his productions, the remix of back to cali comes into my mind for example

Any other set recommendations ?

Verdi might be the best of all in my opinion (the megamind mix that is). However each to their own.

Yeah, some here.

i found his old trance tracks abit cheesy its something i used to listen to when i got pissed up every week. I like most of his techno productions their normally good.

Posted by Redd on Mar-07-2007 01:52:

I like some of his earlier collabs like Sosa, and Verdi and Bangkok are excellent. Not a fan of the techno though, and even though I was digging his cheesier side to some extent earlier I very much don't any more

I remember reading somewhere that Picotto regretted producing every trance track he made...

idk why though, helped his fame.
