Hippie propaganda

Don't you just love GMOs?

quote:
Sick people used like laboratory rats in GM trials
By Geoffrey Lean, Environment Editor
Published: 04 March 2007

Genetically modified potatoes developed by Monsanto, the multinational biotech company, have been fed to sick patients in an experiment. Rats that ate similar potatoes in the research suffered reductions in the weight of their hearts and prostate glands.

Dr Michael Antoniou, reader in molecular genetics at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' School of Medicine, said use of humans was "irresponsible and totally unethical, especially when already ill subjects were enrolled. These people truly were guinea pigs." Other scientists said the trials were too short, on too few people, to give meaningful results of long-term effects.

Monsanto said the vegetables were safe, and the researchers conducting the experiment said effects on the rats were within "permissible" limits.

The experiment is described in a hitherto unpublished report by the Nutrition Institute of the Russian Academy of Medical Science, done "by agreement with Monsanto Company" in 1998.

The report says "10 patients suffering from hypertensive disease and ischemic heart disease" were fed a pound of the Russet Burbank potatoes - modified to resist Colorado beetles - every day for three weeks, and monitored.

It goes on: "A certain risk of GM food products for human health does exist, as there can be by-effects of inserted genes besides the designed ones." The report describes the patients as "volunteers" and says they liked the GM potato so much they all "expressed their intention to consume it at home".

After comparing them with 10 other patients fed conventional potatoes, the report concludes: "The genetically modified potato provided by Monsanto did not reveal toxic, mutagenic, immune modulating and allergic effects within the examined parameters of the present experiment".

It recommended the GM potatoes "can be used for human nutrition purposes in further epidemiological research". The report says the rats, tested over six months, suffered "increases of kidneys' absolute weight" when compared to ones fed conventional potatoes but that all changes were "within permissible physiological fluctuation".

But Dr Irina Ermakova, of the Russian Academy of Science, calls the GM potatoes "dangerous" for rats, adding: "On this evidence, they cannot be used in the nourishment of people".

Tony Coombs from Monsanto UK said in a statement: "Potatoes genetically improved to prevent Colorado beetle destroying the crop have already been consumed, as safely as conventional or organic ones, in North America for years."

Is that all you can think of? Personalizing it to Magnetonium? Pretty sad.

Fuck you dipshit. Surly you remember his post on Monsanto and genetic seeds, etc that was posted a while back? He posted a video link. I was saying nothing good or bad about him or your thread other than to acknowledge that he had started a topic on this in the past and would likely reply to this one. God, you can be such a ****rag.

I think this was the thread if you need a refresher.

AAAAAA Shakkkka ... that thread, if I'd do that argument all over again today I have more reliable and important info, but I am not interested especiallly while I'm in the middle of a busy stretch in college and the complete pointlessness of it anyhow. Gotta maintain my 95% average ;-). And reference for me hitting the video link is uncalled for, just because you didnt like what you heard on that thread. Its only an insult and mock on me, so I am glad Shaolin got you insulted the way you should have felt for trying to instigate me into your trap. Thanks, but no thanks.

EDIT:

I recommend anyone to watch movies THE FUTURE OF FOOD, THE CORPORATION and WHO KILLED ELECTRIC CAR to see exactly how corporate profits are living off people's well-being, health and financial security. Health industry is big business that doesnt want cures that will put it out of business.

Jesus, what the hell are kids being taught other than how to continue with school forever and the best Che shirt to wear to the next kumbiya round-up?

I think you need to understand corporations a LOT better besides picking and choosing ones and then veiling capitalism, as a whole, as 'evil'.

It's one thing to be informed of certain corporate practices, hell I'll even agree to your point regarding the health and wellness industry, however there is this one dimensional, frankly-regressive acute utopian disorder that permeates a lot of your posts.
For someone with your average, I think you're about to get a rude awakening once you hit the real world and get that little piece of paper before moving to a job with a 'corporation' like McDonald's...

I hope you understand and agree with the implications that the movie has on the entire big corporation hierarchy. Thats what I am trying to say here. The movie made me sad and angry ...

Ummm ... I worked at McDonalds for 4 years ... they wouldnt let me quit. And I worked for other big corporations as well. So what? Its not like I am a hippy - but I dont shop at Walmart, and dont eat any meat, fish or animal milk products because I dont condone animal abuse. Thats the least I can do, among other things. I dont hate corporations all in general, there's good ones and bad ones. I dont trust some private industries like health-based companies. Thats what I am saying here. With a lot of money comes greed and abuse of power, and vice versa. It becomes hard to resist when so many others are doing it. No trust and no respect from me to PRIVATE corporations like drug and health-based. Same with tobacco companies. Isnt it obvious as to what these things do to people? I mean, my youngest brother is the first one in my entire family history dating to grand-grandparents who ever had allergies. He was born in Canada. He was given a lot of medication, and his health is not any better. He is also autistic. And he was the only one in my extended family to be with allergies, health problems, autism, etc. Coincidence, you say?

Not at all.
Actually you hit a vein that I actually agree with you 100% on.
The health industry is one of a lot of pitfalls and caveat emptor.
As a personal example, my wife and I are vehemently apposed to giving our new baby a vaccination at her very early stage in life.
Just about every practitioner in Toronto won't take a baby if it hasn't had it's shots. I was actually quite shocked at how blindly they follow this doctrine even though through all our research, there are TONS of documentation showing autism being directly linked to these vaccinations.
Not once did any give any explanation as to why they need this as a perquisite before taking her on as a patient, which in turn, immediately put up a red flag for the both of us.
We have found an alternative (thanks to our holistic friend): Toronto-Centre Naturopathic Medicine.

In the end, it's really up to the individual to make their own informed choice on how they want to heal themselves.
That's not to put hospitals down, they were great when it came to my broken leg and my wife's recent C-section at Mt.Sinai here in Toronto. We are so blessed to have some of the best hospitals in the world in fact, however I'm a HUGE believer in prevention while at the same time, using regular checkups, both holistically and medically, to gauge yourself.

I think you're making a very wise choice...

Those young, developmental years are no time to be fooling with the underlying makeup of our physiological systems.

Same deal with giving kids drugs and the unknown affects on their neurology, from aspirin to ritalin. Best to let the brain develop normally at first.

No. In Russia, I never knew McDonalds existed because there wasnt one for over 5,000 km - I lived in deep south. Or actually, the one in Turkey was only couple thousand kilometres away. I almost lived in stone age so to say, no computers, no cable television, ...

Sure, whatever tickles your pickle. If you believe I am being too cocky, well, its your opinion and let's keep it that way. I am just more direct at voicing my opinions, and I am not always right. I am very confident. I've admitted being wrong, in case you missed some of the arguments, something very hard to notice from some other TAs on this forum admit. Occrider had me beaten, with Aquadyne when I was so sure of my side of things ... There goes that!

And if you worked at McDonalds or knew some people who worked with me, you'd be impressed by my speed. But my vegan lifestyle that I developed a while after starting at Mickey D's became too conflicting with fast food industry ... I am a fast person. Just to let you know I dont spend hours posting, I think and type, I have many more important college projects to do and interesting books to read ;-) Its mostly pointless to argue on this forum, everyone's minds are already made up. I am just trying to have some fun and learn new information. Thats all. If you knew me in person, you'd have a heckuva good time. You'd be surprised that I am not a geek, or a crazy tinfoil hat wearing guy, not some dark depressed quiet fella ... I am very upbeat, energetic funny guy who loves nature and crazy dancy electronic music ... I get along with most people.

OK, though I still don't understand why they wouldn't let you quit. You do know that all you had to do was say the magic words, don't you? It's not like McDonalds employees are irreplaceable. I'm just confused by that statement.

I love the people. I still hang out and have a good time with some of the managers and crew. All the fun times, jokes, events we had. Some people like the top brass are idiots, but I dont want to brag, and you have to believe it, but they enjoyed working with me and wanted me to stay. On the second time I just seriously said that I had to go. That was couple months ago. Oh, tomorrow is poker night, me and my former co-workers mostly ...

Working at jobs like McDonalds where people are expendable and easily replacable doesnt mean that everyone who works there is enjoyable to the management and others. There's something called sucking up to managers, making other employees enjoying working with you. And thats why even though I was late few times, missed couple shifts here and there, I was never suspended written up or anything like that. I hope you can understand what I am saying ...

No shots? Let me guess the MMR and its relationship with autism? Even though its your kid man this is an ill informed decision. Vaccinations produce way more benefits than possible side effects. And if its because autism and the MMR you should do more research, there is no relationship between the two.

Prehaps you can enlighten me then?

You may have misread. I didn't say never, I just said at such a young age.

I believe the onus would be on you at this point to fuss up...
