How do they fix problems?

My internet was down since yesterday, and I called em today and they were like, "Hold on..." I wait... they say, "OK try now" and it fucking works..

how do they do it?

Our On Demand service is pretty shoddy, but whenever we call them and bitch, they tell us to turn our cable box off and back on, then they press a few buttons and ask us if it works a few times and bam, it works.

a few weeks ago a cable guy came to my door and started telling me how Comcast is coming to this area, and since they're gonna have competition they're offering some deals... so he's like "we're giving all our customers 3 free months of cable!" and i was like "uhhh, i don't really watch TV. sorry, not interested"

i didn't wanna tell him i was h4xing them for free cable.

then he started making small talk and asked me if i was a musician (i have musical notes on my door) and i'm like "i'm a DJ" and he said "wow DJs make a lot of money don't they?!"

You should have said, "Yes but not enough to pay for cable, good day to you sir!"

btw, that's awesome I didn't think that would work.

i'm convinced that any cable company that has the word "com" in them is evil.

we had comast in chicago and medicom in iowa. both sucked. down here, i've got suddenlink, and i've never had clearer cable channels in my life. i don't even have a high-def TV. i mean, i've got an old ass magnetbox that's probably going to explode one day. but the picture quality that my cable service provides is unbelieveably clear and it looks like high-def. amazing.

ps, i always used to refer to comcast as cumcast. lol

technically, it shouldn't. it's a glitch that only happens when the technician who hooks up your internet forgets to turn off the access to the cable TV channels. every other time i've had internet installed, the technician was smart enough to know this... but this last time, i knew after the guy called my cell phone TWICE to get directions to my apartment (which is super easy to find) and then showed up an hour late, that he'd probably be dumb enough to forget to do it.

when our cable was being installed I was packing a bowl in front of the cable guy. I kept thinking if I shared the bowl with him he might hook it up with all the pay channels but I didnt bother asking. A month or two ago though, a cable guy knocked on our door threatening to turn our shit off (late payments) and my roommate tried offering him jagerbombs but he wasn't having any of it.

for someone who's generally great with directions, I know how that guy feels

You are all about offering jagerbombs to your guests aren't you?

lol, but it's different for you, dude. you're not familiar with my city so i wouldn't expect you to know where i live... but for technicians and stuff, part of their job requirement is to drive to the customers house and to get there on time.

not only that... but i had JUST moved in and i barely knew how to give directions to my place. cable guy would've been better off looking at a map or calling a dispatcher instead of relying on me to get him there.

i think TimeWarner should just recruit all the delivery people from Jimmy John's. they know what's up.

yeah i've been saying for a while that mapquest or google maps should team up with either some major taxi service or dominos (largest delivery chain as far as i know) so they can consult people who drive for a living on the actual best ways to get places

who here really wants to know how it all works? i worked for a cable company. its all quite archaic except here in Orange county where they use computer controlled switches to turn things on and off.

myra: they forgot an easy step. its a cable trap. it filters everything above and below the channel that they use for the cable internet.

d-res: look on the bottom of your box. what model si it? if it is a dct2000 series call and get a replacement with something like a 2500 or an 1800. these boxes are much newer even if they look basically the same. or insist on a box that is for the DVR but dont get the dvr service.

want cheap cable tv/internet? call and threaten to cancel. they will ALWAYS offer you something lower. then when the offer ends. wait 1 month and call again.

want any other tips or ins about the industry? ask.

Here's a big tip. Cable is fucking terrible, if DSL wasn't so god damn slow I'd totally write off Time Warner. Just waiting for Verizon to set up their FIOS in my area so I can be completely cable free.

just an fyi there are many different systems out there. the one where it was really clear were you in a more populated city than the others? was it a small outfit? it sounds like it was. smaller outfits seem to overall have a better handle on their systems but that also has to do with local management of the system. a lot of systems have HORRIBLE local management so their systems seem to perform like shit.

Posted by Omega_M on Mar-07-2007 19:50:

My wireless service is pathetic. I never get my internet problems fixed by a simple call. Often the conversation involves phrases like

"I don't see any problem at my end..."

"Have you paid the bill ? "

"check back in an hour"

"field technician is looking into it"

"Ok..let's try something else...click on start->run->..."

Twats.
