Sony Ericsson has announced the U.S. launch of �NIGHT TENNIS� in Miami, a revolutionary new concept that combines an �ultra-violet� tennis tournament, the world�s best DJ acts and a �neon� fashion feast � all in the dark � taking place from 11:00 p.m. on March 22, 2007 and March 23, 2007 at the Ice Palace Film Studio,
59 NW 14th Street, Miami . Attendance is free to the public by registering for tickets online at www.night-tennis.com
Eight players from the professional ranks will take to the court wearing specially designed neon whites to serve up a new type of tennis. Played in pitch black, with UV as the only source of light, its fast paced round robin format promises to revolutionize the way tennis is played and watched. Sony Ericsson introduces a new set of rules exclusively for its Night Tennis experience.
Night Tennis will provide clubbers with a sensory extravaganza like no other. Each tennis game is punctuated by explosive beats and an incredible light show, delivered to the audience on a unique 25-foot projection screen. The balls, court and net along with player�s shirts, skirts and shoes will be illuminated and fully UV reactive. In between games a fashion collection extravaganza by Gen Art will showcase the latest in neon style. Paul Oakenfold, Masters at Work and Murk will be taking to the decks and promise to rock Miami with classic house tunes after the final ball has been played.
Night Tennis is part of Sony Ericsson�s sponsored entertainment, competitions and events program running during the week of the Sony Ericsson Open (March 21, 2007 �April 1, 2007). This is the second Night Tennis event, the first premiered in Madrid during the Sony Ericsson Championships in November 2006.
As each tournament draws to a close and the adrenaline starts to drop, Murk will warm up the crowd up with their Miami Classics set. On the Thursday night, Masters at Work will follow, playing their legendary New York Classics set and Friday night will see legendary DJ Paul Oakenfold take the crowd dancing long into the night with his Classics set.
Any price is worth it for this event as long as we can wack Oakenfold across the head with a racket

I think it's pretty interesting.. especially if your into Tennis, you know the US open its starting in March, and I think that it'll cross with the WMC dates.. so the concept seems pretty cool. Sony Ericsson its the new sponsor for the tournament this year.. Im sure tennis aficionados will know whats up.
They are also bringing together the fashion enthusiasts.. I think its a pretty smart and interesting idea.. I may pass by to see whats up, pretty cool to see some tennis players with a glowing ball playing in the dark. GO to the website seems interesting...

I read an interview of Oakenfold, saying that he will spin a classics set, mentioning that it will be a very special set, been that its during wmc, that will be both nostalgic for him and the fans.. classics set by Oakenfold, thats what he was good for... thats probably the one part wanting me to go to this...
Yes it will be classics, and anyone old enough to remember those years will remember all the GREAT songs that rose out of 95-00. Oakenfold was KING back then---spinning all the newest stuff before any other DJs got their hands on it. I used to LOVE his stuff---his TWO YEARS RESIDENCE AT CREAM album is one of the best trance compilations ever made i can assure you of that. I am thinking this could be a fantastic night!!! 
I just need to save some of that energy for Saturday night at KARU---i love WMC!
I am not afraid to say this - his music was great back in the old day. Perfecto music was amazing. Now he sucks big time. But if his event was on tuesday or wednesday i would go see him. There is just too much going on friday and i woudnt want to risk missing them for what could be a bad set afterall once again from oakie.
For those that are going - have fun and hope it truly is classic trance and he doesnt try sliding in a brit murphy track.

this is the gheyest thing i have ever heard of. i dont give a shit if its free. the only way i'd go to this is if its ana kornikova and that other chick that does that canon commercials and they were both naked and hitting 100 MPH serves into oakies face until he stops breathing. that i would go see, otherwise i'll be at studio A, shine, and space.
Thats what it should look like.

Night tennis a glowing opportunity for fans

Tennis pro Marcel Goodman, 19, ranked 1,014th in the world, knew he would never survive in the midday sunshine -- or otherwise -- of next week's Sony Ericsson Open on Key Biscayne.
But when this dance-crazy teenager from Boca Raton was invited to play in the dark under psychedelic ultraviolet lights in another Miami Sony Ericsson tennis tournament next week, he jumped at the chance. Spectators can drink free liquor and groove to remixes by famous DJs in town for the Winter Music Conference, while Goodman and his indoor opponents' reflective outfits and tennis equipment glow in neon whites, pinks, blues, reds, greens and purples.
''That sounds awesome, really cool -- a glowing ball with flashing lights like a disco with a tennis tournament right in the middle,'' Goodman said. ``I'll try to stop from dancing in the middle of the point because I love to dance.''
Sony Ericsson has dubbed its new concept Night Tennis, and it's free to the first 1,200 people 21 and older who register for tickets online at www.night-tennis.com. The two-night event from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. March 22 and 23 takes place at the Ice Palace Film Studio, 1400 North Miami Ave., in downtown Miami.
THE CREATOR
Dean Taylor, Sony Ericsson's British senior manager of sponsorship marketing, created the concept for a similar event last year at the Madrid School of Fashion. Taylor said Spanish college players competed in ``everything from specifically designed UV hooded tennis tops to A-line skirts with tennis balls attached.
''Visually, it's incredible,'' he said. 'Our vision was to knock down boundaries that put some people off to tennis -- `Quiet please!' -- and unleash some fun and excitement. Tennis to music is a great idea, and the ball gets a taillike comet effect when it's hit back and forth. We'll celebrate amazing shots with light displays.''
The Ice Palace Film Studio will have banked seating for about 500 spectators, with the rest standing on the pitch-black dance floor that surrounds the tennis court. A giant clock with neon lights is projected on the back wall to keep score, show replays and flash colors. A UV-intensive Gen Art fashion show will take place in the dark between games, and renowned DJs Paul Oakenfold, Masters at Work and Miami-based Murk will spin music from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m.
The fast-paced tournament will be played on a spongy-foam court with unconventional, but simple, rules and scoring. Each game is limited to three minutes. Taylor even got well-known tennis umpire Debra ''Vigi'' Dreker of Boca Raton -- she has been a chair umpire or linesman for the past 14 U.S. Open finals -- to be the umpire. Each night's winner among the eight mostly pro or former touring players will get a trophy and a pair of VIP tickets to the Sony Ericsson Open, which begins Wednesday at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park.
LATE-NIGHT SURPRISE
Don't be surprised if some Sony Ericsson Open players pop in for some late-night entertainment.
''It's out of this world, but extremely fun,'' said Sergio Moreno Gomez, 20, who plays for Madrid Polytechnic and competed in the Madrid event in November. ``It was quite electrifying, especially with the spotlights and music playing. Having people dance by the side of the court while you were playing was quite strange. . . . ''
Next week's players include Adriana Biasella, 26, of Rome, who plays Futures and Challengers tournaments and is ranked 675th, and Horacio Rearte, 43, who grew up in Argentina and France and now lives in Boca Raton.
''I heard it will be a bit different because we'll play with black lights, disco lights, so the ball will have a cool effect,'' Biasella said. ``When the ball goes [that fast] and everything is dark, it could be tough to see. But the color, the music and all the people dancing and drinking -- maybe tennis will be the least important thing.''
Goodman, who grew up on Long Island, N.Y., figures as such. He said in his perfect world, he would be introduced next week to the theme song from Rocky.
''I'd love to be wearing a big silk robe and come out with trunks and start punching with a racket in my hand,'' he said. ``I just hope I don't start break dancing in the middle of the tournament. It's going to be awesome with all that neon. I don't know if I'm ever going to want to play tennis with lights again.''
