never used it but most likey ableton live for mixing and editing.
other wise you can use soundforge (cut+paste add effects etc)

hmmm the best thing to do is that you go around the websites of each software and download demos, try the whole bunch...

Leaders in the "traditional layout" PC mixing are Native Instruments Traktor and Virtual DJ.

non-traditional would be ruled by Ableton Live and maybe Mixmeister.

the traditional layout means having 2 decks and an emulation of a mixer.

the non-traditional layout is more like a sequencer where you either put tracks into a time-line or trigger them as clips.

My problem with Ableton is the fact that I have to prepare all of my songs before hand.
Ableton's not good if you like to be random and are not a well organised person.
My opinion anyways...

I've never had problems to warp my tracks on the fly.

I've used Traktor 2.5 in the past for real time mixing. Right now I'm using Ableton to program a mix and it seems up to the task. One of the bigger challenges is correctly making a beat grid and in Ableton I'm able to do it quite easily with the help of the metronome. The metronome plays the beat of the set grid so in essense it's like beatmatching two tracks. I don't have to grid all tracks in this method Some tracks can be matched using the waveform. Please note that I mix trance only.
