Who has cell phone insurance?

Anyone actually get cell phone insurance? I just signed up for it on my new TREO and never had it before then and was wondering who got it.

Posted by Xtracktor on Mar-08-2007 22:33:

Does it insure the physical phone from damage?

Posted by gehzumteufel on Mar-08-2007 22:44:

there is only 1 reason to get insurance...if you have a crackberry/sidekickX/pdaphone....no other reason. its not worth it in any way if you dont. they have changed the deductible to be higher or the monthly premium depending on the service you have.

btw...i have insurance but only cause my phone is $400 if i fuck it up. what sucks is i will be canceling the insurance soon. but only because i will be upgrading....AGAIN! and this one will cost $400 again. havent had this phone quite a year yet but yeah. im horrible.

yeah thats what i have only the GSM version. i cant wait to get the TyTn (above) as it has a faster processor and runs much better without sacrificing battery life. it also has 3g capabilities.

the 6800 comes out next month on VZW.

6800 = HTC TyTn but without the GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio.

I currently have the 700P, but I am exchanging it for the 700wx.

The only problem with the 700P is the software keeps resetting it self. I didn't know that this was a "normal" failure. My friend has a 650P and says he has the same problem. It was really crappy because I didn't get any of my text messages for like a week until the software reset and then all of a sudden WOOSH.. I was bombarded with all these diff alerts.

I figure I might as well get the 700WX. The only thing the WX doesn't have is streaming video (from what I found out so far). I know it's more complicated but that resetting shit is really annoying. ARGH!

ROFL thats one of the many "features" of palm os.

and there is no difference between the 700w and wx when it comes to the software and the only hardware difference that you may notice is more memory. to be honest though the treo sucks. the form factor is horrible. the keyboard is too small. your thumbs start hurting after a bit and its too cramped.

use your old phone if possible and wait for the PPC6800 to come out. its much better than the 6700 but same form factor. the slide out keyboard is MUCH more comfortable and easier to type on.

just ask bas or ruben (electrophile) if they love their phones. they and i have the HTC Wizard (Tmo MDA, Sprint PPC6700, VZW XV6700, Cing 8125) and we all love it. would never go back to a regular phone again.

I have insurance on my sk3, but I don't have insurance on any of my other phones.

I don't have insurance because I get them free

Insurance is recommended for smart phones though.

Nope. I even dropped my 8525/TyTN in the bathtub (completely submerged). I got it out quickly and took the battery out. I dried it out for a day and it's OK. I don't think insurance would have covered for that anyway.

Even the smartest of smart phones only have a life of 18-24 months. I don't even use a case for my phone. It's bulky enough as it is. It lives in my pants pocket just fine.

FYI, for those using TyTN's. It's pretty easy to hook thme up to a laptop and get a ~600Kbps Internet connection for $40/month. You can also charge them with non-HTC chargers (like Motorola's and the cheap clone ones) by pressing the soft reset button on the bottom while the charger is connected (by default they will only charge with HTC chargers because of some non-standard wiring).

Finally, Gmail has a great PDA interface for email. It would probably work pretty good even on phones with pretty small displays.

I have insurance for mine. The person at the store said it covers if I drop it in water or something like that, so why not because something tells me that something bads gonna happen to it sooner or later.

I love it!!! I will only use a phone that I can hack. People pick up my phone and look at it or they hear it and they all ask how I got my phone to do all that. I tell them to join us in the year 2007. I would probably die if I didn't have my MDA, it makes my life so much easier. I don't have to remember anything beacause it reminds me to do everything, I never miss a payment, I'm never late, I keep track of my finances, birthdays, things to do/buy, movies friends recommend, release dates......I could go on forever! The G-mail sync is amazing too! I will get my g-mail not even 30 seconds after my account gets it. The only complaint I have is that my SMS program freezes up from time to time and doesn't send or receive text messages until you give it a soft restart, then all the texts and e-mail come flooding in at once.

Not to get sidetracked, but I have a htc star trek with rom ver: 2.4.502 with this home screen. I like the way windows mobile is customizable.

I have to agree too. I will only use a phone that i can hack. I just to switched to Verizon and recieved the Env. Literally right now i'm going to recieve free unlimited Navigator (GPS navigation) Normally it cost $10.00 per month...but hacking da phone!

I tried a blackberry pearl for the day...IT WAS THE WORST PHONE EVER! God i hate that thing.

But insurance is really not worth it. If you ever drop your phone in water, dry it out then smash it. Many insurance companies will not cover liquid damage, but they cover phyical damage.

while you have a very valid point there is a sticker inside the phone and normally in the battery compartment that says if it was dropped in water or not. if this is shwoing water damage then your screwed.
