[rant] Complex Power Relations [/rant]

I'm not fond of power relations in general, but the more complex they get, the more potentially obnoxious they are.

As some people here might not know, I've been working as a web designer (and, sometimes, as a graphic designer too) for quite a few years - mostly, for educational institutions.

A department at my university hired me to design a poster for them. The theme should be the Japanese "Girls' Day" and it would be used as an advert for the annual academic forum (you know, those boring off-line forums in which there are no threads to reply ).

So, after being told by the university about what to do (no way you could do it formally, with a written briefing and all that), I spend all night working on what they had just asked me.

On the next day, first came the relief - all the professors loved the poster. However, a few hours later, the sponsor seems to be against everything, including the theme. And, ironically, the sponsor is another client of mine :/

Here I am, losing another night

I don't get it, did the professors tell you something wrong, or were the people just too picky?

Unintentionally both: the professors wanted one thing, the sponsor wanted another, and because they didn't talk among each other about it as clearly as necessary, the conflict only appeared after I finished the god damned poster
