[SEA] Broken Disco: John Tejada (Live), 04.13.07

Friday, April 13th 2007, Chop Suey, Decibel, Fourthcity, Sensory Effect and Shameless present the inaugural edition of...

IDOL STAGE (18+)

John Tejada - Live PA
[Poker Flat / Palette / Gigolo / Plug Research]
Normally associated with his peers in Techno from Detroit, Europe and elsewhere in the US and the world, John Tejada has embraced electronic music as a personal frontier, expanding on his formidable resume as a Techno recording artist as producer and remixer, DJ, and label owner. With dozens of singles, remixes, some film and TV work and contributions to sample CDs to his credit, this recent expansion has born a slew of tracks deeply informed by his uncompromised aesthetic honed over years of diligent production which finds its roots in Detroit Techno but references a far broader range of music, both in and outside of electronic music. His musically formative years were steep in Classical music, growing up in family of performing artists--his mother a soprano singer and his father a conductor which then widened to include hip hop, DJing and finally, electronic music.

Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, his recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo. Earlier on, his music found release on labels such as A13, Multiplex and Generation R&S. Following on to those successes, he established his own imprint, Palette, in Los Angeles, in 1996, and has enjoyed years of steady growth and recognition. The label has served as an exclusive outlet for his own prodigious output but has recently begun to expand its roster. He has also continued to record for other labels such as Pokerflat, Plug Research, Seventh City, Playhouse and others, often in collaboration since 1991 with Arian Leviste, and alongside these numerous singles, has also produced albums for Playhouse, Palette, Plug Research, deFocus, Moods and Grooves, Immigrant and A13.

KOI Vanessa Nova & Noriko Kaji - Live
[Fourthcity]
Noriko Kaji: bass, keys, percussion, toy piano, voice, laptop

Vanessa Nova: voice, drums, concertina, glockenspiel, laptop

Koi is the creative output of Vanessa Nova and Noriko Kaji, whose mutual love for sneakers, music, toy instruments, and dreams of touring the world brought them together in early 2007. Ms. Kaji, born in L.A. and transplanted to Seattle via Tokyo and NY, played bass in a punk band, the Amazombies, from 2000 - 2006. She delivers the pop sound and the punk attitude to Koi's sound. Ms. Nova, born and raised in San Diego, arrived in Seattle in 2003, after living all over southern California and briefly on Oahu in Hawaii. A dj, electronic music producer, and vocalist since 2000, her soulful voice and love for beat programming are the perfect counterpoint to Kaji's pop and punk sensibilities.

What is Broken Disco?
A brand new monthly event starting April 13th, Broken Disco will bring together the combined talent of four of Seattle's most dedicated electronic music collectives (Decibel, Fourthcity, Sensory Effect and Shameless) with the support of one of it's favorite venues, Chop Suey all united to showcase internationally renowned talent.

Our goal in this convergence is to create a growing community feel and increase momentum for electronic music events in Seattle. Each month will feature the best music possible with no one specific genre focus. In an effort to expose club life to a younger audience, Broken Disco will be a 2-room, 18+ event and also have a 21+ lounge featuring local performers and custom sound. It all takes place at the newly renovated Chop Suey, which now features Funktion-One sound, a top of the line lighting system, and a great setup to take advantage of visual art to accompany the music.

When is it happening?
Dates: 2nd Fridays starting April 13th
Venue: Chop Suey, 1325 E. Madison, Seattle, WA 98122
Hours: 9pm to 4am (afterhours)
Ages: 18+, bar for those 21+ with ID

Okay, so you have no idea how excited I am for this. Previously, you could only catch these locals at 21+ events or every six months at the Pacific Science Center parties. Now they're doing a monthly 18+ at Chop Suey with (cue drooling) Funktion One sound. Not only are they good promoters, but these locals know how to spin and don't throw down a trainwreck half of the time.

There's finally something good happening again in Seattle, and you can bet your ass I'm going to try and get onboard (translation: I'm going to try to nail a gig at this by the end of the year).

Looks like it'll be an all-hardware live PA from Tejada. Sickness!

My heart raced when I saw a topic with Tejada. Then I was hoping, but knew it was going to be non-California, for it to be in California. Then I realized the [SEA] in your subject meant "Seatle." And then I cried in real life. The cruelty!
