When do I use this??
OK i use a dither as the last tool before rendering?
but what do i use a deEsser for??
DeEssers make your tracks sound bigger.
deEssers are really for vocal tracks, they take the siblance out of the vocals (i.e. the hard "s" sounds)
ya lol .. it is for removing ssss thhhh in vocals
it is called : DE - ESSER then it removes the SSSSSSSSs

yea de-essers are mostly used on vocals. a de-esser is a compressor that works in the high frequencies to de-ess (d'oh) the vocals
S-sounds, which mostly lies around 6-7 kHz, are often very distinct in vocal recordings, thus you want to lower them to make the digital audio easy on the ears.

I have noticed alot of volcalist's "sytles" emphasize the "ssssss"
I guess an Esser would be used in this case? lol
They probably forgot to turn on the DeEsser on their channel strip. Or something. Or maybe they like hissy vocals.
I dunno. ![]()

Royksopp - Remind Me (James Zabiela's Ingeborg Mix)
example of well used hissy vocals...
using de-essers is depending on the nature of the track, sometimes you'll just want to keep them hissy or even enhance that "hissy-ness"
i watched a video of Charles Dye(big rock producer) who said he uses de-esser's to cut out 'unwanted headphone noise' from when a singer sings in a booth.
i dunno how that's possible but that was his in his vocal trick section
