Second Life
I've heard of this game where you can play a "game" and you can spend and get real money in the game... my boyfriend says it's pretty decent. i might give it a try... i have a feeling it will be popular in 2007.
to explain it more...

Second Life (abbreviated to SL) is an Internet-based virtual world which came to international attention via mainstream news media in late 2006 and early 2007.[4][5] Developed by Linden Lab, a downloadable client program enables its users, called "Residents", to interact with each other through motional avatars, providing an advanced level of a social network service combined with general aspects of a metaverse. Residents can explore, meet other Residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and buy items (virtual property) and services from one another.
Second Life is one of several virtual worlds that have been inspired by the cyberpunk literary movement, and particularly by Neal Stephenson's novel Snow Crash. The stated goal of Linden Lab is to create a world like the Metaverse described by Stephenson, a user-defined world of general use in which people can interact, play, do business, and otherwise communicate.[6] Second Life's virtual currency is the Linden Dollar (Linden, or L$) and is exchangeable for US Dollars in a marketplace consisting of residents, Linden Lab and real life companies.
While Second Life is sometimes referred to as a game, it does not have points, scores, winners or losers, levels, an end-strategy, or most of the other characteristics of games. In all, over four million accounts have been registered, though many are not active, and some Residents have multiple accounts. Despite its prominence, Second Life has notable competitors, including Active Worlds, There, and newcomers such as Entropia Universe, Dotsoul Cyberpark and Red Light Center.
Snow Crash is my favorite book.

It's been around for a while and supposedly it's shit now. I just read an article about it in the paper, a lot of people that signed up for it years ago are upset with the current way things are going. You can actually buy items in the game that you can buy in real life. Such as clothes from American Apparel and Nike and electronics from Best Buy and Sony. There's actually groups of first gen gamers that are acting as terrorist groups and detonating bombs in front of popular stores and shooting up other players.
What a bunch of losers
don't join now. there is a terrorist organization in Second Life known as the Second Life Liberation Army
and they will shower your house with animated cocks and set off nukes @ the mall

Yeah I think so
I know that you can also buy property and build your own house, but according to that article it's harder because all these people have bought the deeds and are only selling them to their friends. "Just like real life"

Second Life is like Scabble, it is more like homework than a game. if you don't have any programming knowledge don't even try it.

So.
PS3 Home.
Next Second Life?
Possibly. Just saw a little thing about it on G4 yesterday. Sony REALLY wants people to buy a ps3...maybe if they didn't charge $600 for it more people would get one
Anyway, Home sucks, Second Life sucks. Wii forever

Saw an article on it maybe six or seven months ago. Some people have designed their own clothes for the game and quit their normal jobs because their income from Second Life users purchasing their merchandise has been tremendous. Luck bastards. The only downside is when Second Life goes under.

| Originally posted by Yan I dunno. I think Home's got possibility. Also, $600 isn't THAT bad for a gaming console. There have been more expensive consoles out in the past (they didn't fare too well and weren't one of the big hardware contenders of their time, however)... At most, I'll pay $500. And that's for the $600 version. Haha. |
