remixes of remixes(and remixes that sound nothing like the original)

Rank 1 - It's Up to You mixes -> based on Symsonic Dumonde remix (which was originally instrumental, later had the vocals added)
Moonman - Galaxia - remixes(including Ferry's own remake) are based on the Solar Stone mix
A remixology of Ayla - Ayla
Taucher remix->Veracocha and Tandu remixes
Tandu remix->Space Brothers vs Sacha Collision and Kosmonova remixes, therefore these are remixes of a remix of a remix!

Mixes that sound nothing like the original
Alice Deejay - The lonely one(Airscape remix). Maybe it should be considered a separate song(ala Born Slippy and .nuxx) since the original was also (co)produced by Svenson and Gielen(Airscape). I once heard the two mixes mixed together as a medley of sorts.
Tiesto - Sparkles(transa remix)
Mauro Picotto - Komodo(Megamind mix), again maybe it should be a separate song.
Tiesto - Theme From Norefjell(DJ Jan and Christophe Chantzis mix). This version was later remade into "Coming Home", another remix of a remix.
VDM - Flowtation(Digital Blonde mix). Absolutely nothing left of the original. And don't get me started with BS/BS.nuxx again.

First which came in mind:
Art of Trance - Madagascar (Cygnus X Remix)
- The remix bares no resemblance to the original version whatsoever.. and yet all the other remixes are based on this remix instead of the acidic original.

- Except for the original set of remixes (DJ Errik, Qattara, Crimson Dawn) which can't be based on the Solar Stone remix because they came out 3 years before Solar Stone remix even existed.

Tandu remix->Space Brothers meet Sacha Collisson and Kosmonova remixes, therefore these are remixes of a remix of a remix!

- Mo & Skinny Hole In One Mix of Ayla is the only remix which resembles the original version even a bit, all the other remixes are indeed remixes of Taucher or Tandu mixes.
- To be exact, Kosmonova made a remake of Ayla (Tandu Remix) and that version was released as Kosmonova - Ayla with a bunch of remixes, and Taucher remixed the remake as well so basically at first Taucher did just a remix, and a year later they remixed a remake of a remix of their original remix.
- Taucher's remix of the Kosmonova version is at parts soundwise very similar to a track Waterloo on their album Return To Atlantis.

quote:
Mauro Picotto - Komodo(Megamind mix), again maybe it should be a separate song.

- Yeh that's more like an alternate version of Damon Wild - Aqua or vice versa than a remix of Komodo.
- Lots of Picotto tracks are like that tho, remixes are nothing like the original versions.
Alice Deejay - Celebrate Our Love (Solid Sessions Remix)
- Only thing from the original I notice is a tiny vocal loop, everything else is more of a reminiscence of Solid Sessions' Janeiro.
Vengaboys - Uncle John From Jamaica (M.I.K.E. Remix)
- Not his best remixes but a decent one anyway and also a highly unrecognizable for being a Vengaboys track apart from a lil vocal bit. There's also a M.I.K.E. instrumental which drops even that vocal bit.
Gouryella - Tenshi (Transa Remix)
- A great trancer but the melody takes a whole different route from the original.
Many of Van Bellen's remixes
- For example DJ Sakin & Friends - Protect Your Mind, Future Breeze - Mind In Motion which are pretty damn far in every way from the cheesy originals.
Scooter - I'm Raving (Taucher Remix)
- Taucher turned Scooter's awful version of Shut Up & Dance's Raving I'm Raving (which was a remake/cover already, of Marc Cohn - Walking In Memphis) into a great trancer.
Blank & Jones - Beyond Time (The Thrillseekers Remix)
- This could be a totally different track just like the tracks above, as only the vocals reveal this is a remix of Beyond Time, everything else is different.
Blank & Jones - The Nightfly (Transa Remix)
- The Scottish duo continue with their exploration of making differing remixes.... yet again only the vocals say what this is.
Blockster - Grooveline (Matt Darey Remix)
- Kinda lame "contestant" i guess as pretty much all trancers made from house tracks differ almost completely from the originals and this isn't an exception.

I'll think some more later if i haven't fallen asleep.

Rank 1 remix of Push - Journey Of Life.

Posted by RebeL9 on Mar-10-2007 20:07:

dont forget Earthbound - Essence of Life (John 00 Fleming remix)
one of j00fs best remixes

Posted by wolftickets on Mar-11-2007 02:55:

It is pretty much a given that any remix by Transa or remix of a vengaboys or other bubblegum song is going to be very different from the original.
I guess i was wrong. Maybe the Ferry Corsten remake of Galaxia is the only one that was based on the Solar stone version(other than the vocal version). Or was the Solar stone mix remixed from Quatara or one of the others?(making the remake a remake of a remix of a remix)

Posted by wolftickets on Mar-11-2007 03:07:

Some artist named Morgane made a cover of Cascada - Everytime we touch, which itself used the chorus from Maggie Reilly - Everytime we touch. Now that's a cover of a cover.
Here's a COVER OF A COVER OF A COVER. Obsession-Always On My mind was remade from Pet Shop Boys - Always on My Mind(same synth chords) which itself was a remake of Willie Nelson - Always on my Mind, which ITSELF was a remake of Elvis - Always on My Mind.

ian van dahl - i cant let you go (push vocalised remix)

fucking great remix by mike, turned a pure cheese dance track into a credible trance track imo

Mauro Picotto - Komodo(Megamind mix

Let's not forget that komodo is a cover of Deep Forest - Sweet Lullaby, which in turn is an interpretation of a Solomon Islands folk song

Posted by SuspicionVandit on Mar-11-2007 05:34:

I believe there was a Paul Oakenfold remix of the Tiesto remix of Delerium's Silence.

and a shitload of Signum's remixes sound nothing like their cheeeeeeesy counterparts

you sure about that? i think it's very clear that the digital blondes remix is a remix of the original. and it's digital blondes remix, not digital blonde remix. they used to be digital blondes when ricky smith worked with some other guy whose name i've forgotten. now that it's ricky only it's the digital blonde.

U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name (Nu-NRG Remix)

^one of the best remixes ever made, for such a shabby song.

Hmm i dunno. Qattara mix is my fav version btw, and it is slightly similar to Solar Stone mix at parts but the main difference is the wonderful piano which Solar Stone mix doesn't have.

Ehh no. The first versions of Komodo didn't even feature the Deep Forest sample yet but some rather synthetic sounding female lyrics of "Wait.. please.. connecting". Featuring an altered sample from another song mainly in the breakdown section doesn't make a track a cover yet. So no, Komodo isn't a cover of Sweet Lullaby but just samples it, with some added and changed lyrics.

I heard the dumonde mix well before "it's up to you"(the vocal mixes) even existed.

Kris O'Neil - Snowflakes (Allende Remix)

Sounds nothing like the original. The original is more of a progressive housey type track, kind of dark. The "Allende Remix" is a melodic trancer, with an original melody and brand new beat/bassline.

that's probably just a mislabelled mp3 since oakey used that tune on a mix cd a while back

one example of a 'remix of a remix' that comes to mind is goldenscan - sunrise. i'm not entirely sure of the chronological ordering of the remixes but i *THINK* the pulser remix was the first one, adding a whole new melody & chord progression, which was later used in the tiesto remix & later the ronski speed remix. i'm assuming it worked like that anyway, since the pulser mix sounds rather trite & basic next to the tiesto mix.. i have a hard time believing someone could hear tiesto's almighty version & THEN go on to put out something so comparitively weak

Vengaboys - Kiss (Airscape Remix)

why... for what reason and how is that a remix hahah

Posted by Nik Novo on Mar-12-2007 09:13:

Scooter - Jigga Jigga was a remake of Mac Zimms - L'annonce des couleurs (The Mystery Remix)

Another track that comes into my mind when talking of remixes of remixes of... is Love Stimulation

Posted by montana on Mar-12-2007 12:03:

yep, the all the remixes of love stimulation is a remix of the lovemix. and wwhen it came to marmion - schneberg, several remixes of it was reworks of the original marmion remix rather than the original.
and for salt tank - eugina, most of the remixes of it are reworks of the pacific diva version

Posted by wolftickets on Mar-18-2007 02:35:

Tiesto - A tear in the open(Leama and Moor remix). Only thing left is the vocal samples, and even those(which are from a sample library) have been used in many other songs(eg Signum - Cura Me).
Tiesto - Just Be(Antillas Dub). Without the vocals, it ain't Just Be anymore. BTW, the 514 mix seems to be based on the Antillas main mix.
Airscape - L'esperanza(Absolom remix) sounds almost nothing like the original. The Tiesto remix is apparently based on the Svenson goes to the Love Parade mix(if that one came first).

I think that was just a mis-label by some idiot. I THINK, so if I am wrong don't attack me.

....

the duende dub of Duderstadt - Smile is a fantastic tune,
but the morph or harris c remixes, though pretty well done in their own way, sound hardly anything like the first

Jigga Jigga rips off more than Mac Zimms, it rips off:

  1. M.O.R.P.H. - Creatures (Original Mix)
  2. Mac Zimms - L'Annonce Des Couleurs (The Mystery Remix)
  3. Fictivision vs. C-Quence - Symbols (Original Mix)

A bit off topic, don't continue to analyze what Scooter rips off because it could fill a whole forum section.

hmmm, i beg to differ. The original eugina was the same as the pacific diva melody wise. on st3 there were three tracks with the same melodies...

track 1) pacific diva
track 2) sargasso sea
track 6) eugina

notice pacific diva stood as a title on its own, not eugina(pacific diva) as labelled on later releases.
