Who the f**k is Bob Sinclar?

Have I been living under a rock? I watched the 2006 World Music Awards on a local station tonight...a ceremony that took place sometime last year obviously...and they voted Bon Sinclair Best DJ, beating out the likes of Oakenfold.

So, I am like who the fvck is this guy?

The even bigger question, is he any good?

Posted by the gamemaster on Mar-11-2007 04:31:

hes a french dj who used to be arguably the best house dj in the business practically inventing the genre of "africanism" and making several hits. that was before he sold out in 2006 to the mainstream crowd with absolute rubbish like "rock this party" and "world hold on", ironically he won an award last year though.

if u havent heard of him u obviously just dont know anything about house or u have been living under a rock

so the answer is that he was good but now is shit just like oakenfold

I haven't liked anything Oakenfold has done since "Southern Sun". And yeah, while I call myself a fan, I don't know much about House. What I do know comes through www.di.fm and the "Female Vocal Trance" channel. I really like DJ GT...but he's not House.

Thanks for the info!

Sinclar not Sinclair.

that doesn't even begin to describe the atrocities he committed with those tracks.

OMG we're agreeing!!!

I never even heard of him 'til everyone and her little sister started playing that crap, and I couldn't figure it out. I can't even imagine that he was ever any good. Ugh I kid you not, I even heard somebody play "World Hold On" and some [even worse] remix of Sandstorm in the same set. In my defense, it was on internet radio before somebody good was going on, but it was absolutely horrendous.

Posted by the gamemaster on Mar-11-2007 05:15:

lol nah, he used to be very good. he played alot of latin and balaeric house and he pioneered the "africanism" movement basically (which is practically the same thing). it was all really great "real" house, i dunno how the fuck it changed so quickly. his album last year was the equivalent of just be but much worse

Hehe, I have his Africanism All-Stars Vol. 1 or whatever, and yeah, I kinda like World Hold On.

Well, at least the Axwell Mix.

Posted by Dan1584 on Mar-11-2007 05:41:

Does he have any memorable sets or mix comps? I know of his recent productions, but not of his apparent honorable past as a house dj.

To be honest, I only know his Africanism All-Stars compilations... but I'm sure there's a liveset or two floating around if you search the tracklisting sub-forum.

Posted by the gamemaster on Mar-11-2007 05:51:

his mixes really only consist of africanism volume 1 2 and 3. "bob sinclar in the house" was also quite good and was his last piece of good work before 2006. he has some famous sets i could get them i guess..

it was his productions that were also what made him great his first album "paradise" and the single "i feel for you" were some of my favourites

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Mar-11-2007 05:54:

If you get really really drunk, I dare you to listen to an Africanism album and not dance. I fail every time I try.

Posted by the gamemaster on Mar-11-2007 05:56:

lol ill dance to anything when drunk.

Sergio Flores remix, gorgeous tune.

Posted by diego992 on Mar-11-2007 06:32:

he has a weekly mixset radio show on radio fg. You can find those sets floating around anywhere livesets are shared.

The music he uses consist mainly of the big, overplayed, overhyped commercial tunes everyone has heard a million times, hardly anything innovating, i guess thats why he is so commercially successful. Same can be said for David Guetta who is still playing the same tunes from more than 2 years ago.

Posted by LoveHate on Mar-12-2007 00:31:

world hold on=one of my fav tunes from last year.

Posted by Dj EntycE on Mar-12-2007 00:56:

You don't have to be a house fan to know Bob Sinclar. Last year 3 of his songs climbed the charts and have done well. Especially 'Rock this Party' which is played often in clubs, here at least.

Posted by the gamemaster on Mar-12-2007 05:36:

yes thankyou captain obvious but if you are a house fan u have heard of him no matter wat (unless your a dumb ****) which is the point.
