Most beautiful word of the English Language

I still remember the first time I heard this word. I was amazed by the fact that there was a word for such concept — 6 simple letters could convey all the freedom and speed of such revolutionary action. Originally, it was just a variant of "to stretch", but thanks to the natural semantic changes of natural languages, it's not acquired its supreme meaning. How could I grow up speaking a language with no word to express this!?

Thanks to this word we can talk about how great it is to streak. No words could describe this, other than "streak" itself.

I'm tired and I seriously need some sleep.

I dunno really. There's so many words, and some which might sound nice probably have shit meanings so they don't get the attention they deserve.

cookie is a cool one. it's a word that sounds like what it is. Intensive also works in that manner.

but the winner - Ribena

Trust me, from studying Physics etc, the words Particle Flux mean a sickening amount of very boring maths.

British Council wanted a creative and fun way to celebrate our 70th anniversary. British Council teachers in centres worldwide organised classroom activities with over 7000 learners of English to choose what they considered to be the 70 most beautiful words in the English language.

We also ran an online poll in all non-English speaking country websites in order to rank these 70 words and find the top ten. Over 35,000 visitors to our websites worldwide cast their votes.

Mother is the most beautiful word in the English language, according to a survey of 42,000 learners of English round the world.

The top ten are interesting, if a little short on surprises the more unexpected entries come further down the ranking. Who for instance, could have predicted such entries as whoops in 56th place or zing at 68?
