Question Parking Ticket Advice?

k so i know parking tickets from private school don't necessarily mean anything, got one from amherst college a few months ago, didn't do anything, no big deal, never heard from them again.
and i also know that here at UMass if you get a ticket, you need to pay it cause its a state school, and the cops who issue the tickets etc are actual cops with the state

so i was at brandeis university overnight and apparently the cop didn't like my parking job and gave me a 50 dollar ticket(!!!!!!)

normally i'd shrug it off, but its on the same style ticket that the town/state/umass uses, which makes it seem legit
anyone got any experience with the matter?

Don't take any chances.

Pay it off.

you think they'd actually tell me i didn't need to pay them?
idk
while i feel that they should, it doesn't make any sense from their perspective

call the number on the ticket and tell them that you want to dispute the ticket. if they say you have to go to traffic/criminal court (a state court), then i'd pay it or challenge it. if they say you have to talk to a school administrator/ or dispute it in a state civil court, then blow it off.

in nyc parking tickets can be in excess of 100...

pay off your ticket or risk getting towed or booted on your next visit. if you never plan on returning, then you can probably let things lapse.

[just 2 random examples: nyc scofflaws get their cars towed by sheriffs or marshalls when aggregate parking fines go above $230; in providence, 5 tickets (or a quintupling of unpaid late fines) get you the denver boot]

if you don't pay it now it'll be even more expensive later. and they can keep you from registering a vehicle if you don't pay it. that's how it is in milwaukee at least.

If enacted, such a policy would not affect Brandeis students because as a private institution outside of Boston, parking regulations work differently at Brandeis. While Boston University is a private institution, by virtue of its placement in the heart of the city, Boston city police assigns parking violations. But, Brandeis employs its own police and sets its own fines for parking violations. Members of the police force at Brandeis are solely employees of the school, not Waltham. The University is allowed to have its own police force on the condition that the officers complete the mandatory Massachusetts training, attend seminars and annually update their education.

Director of Public Safety Ed Callahan said the process of receiving and paying for parking tickets at Brandeis differs greatly from that in public institutions. At Brandeis, fines from parking tickets cannot affect one's license. Instead, ticketed parties have 30 days to respond to a ticket issued by the Brandeis police. If the fine goes unpaid, it is transferred to the student's account. "You can't imagine how many parents have called me refusing to believe their son or daughter has hundreds of dollars in parking tickets."

but also from brandeis' web site:

quote:
Section 3: FAILURE TO PAY FINES
Failure to pay fines within the thirty (30) calendar days' notice will result in additional fee, being added to the original violation. Non-payment of registrant's outstanding tickets will result in the immediate suspension of parking privileges and may result in complaints being issued against the registered owner and operator of the vehicle through the Student judicial Board, Human Resources Office or the Waltham District Court. Students with outstanding parking fines will have their outstanding balances automatically forwarded to the Student Account Office for collection. Any additional late charges will likewise be assessed.

so idk
its a district court...idk what that means. but the first article i found makes it sound like i won't need to pay, that they can only do shit to students with violations
hmmmm

in other words, the tickets are not from the government but from a private institution. if they want to collect, they'll have to add it to a student account or sue you in state civil court (an unlikely prospect, given it's for 50.) looks like there was no criminal offense here. the only likely repercussion may be that they'll tow your car if you park on campus again.
