Moving to LA in June

Hey guys

I'm moving to LA in June and am trying to figure out some nice lofts to live in. I would prefer to be downtown near USC or in silverlake let me know if you know any good buildings or good leasing, renting companies. Thanks for the help in advance.

well, i think around downtown is pretty expensive, my friend was trying to get a 1 bedroom and it was like 1500 or something per month ( i dont know what your budget is). i think there are some websites you can sign up with to help you find apartments and stuff, i think they cost around 50 bucks to sign up with.

Nice. I'm actually moving back to LA in the end of May/begining of June. There are lots of lofts/apartments downtown and they have gotten pretty price recently. The prices will continue to likely go up as downtown is being rejuvinated.

Below is a list of places off the top of my head

Medici - Located at 8th a Bixel. Pretty nice place, but kind of cheeply made. Has an Italian theme to the archictecture (as can be infered from the naem) Lots of USC students live there along with young professionals. Has two pools and hot tubs, work out facility and its own gated in mini park.
Orsini - Owned by same people as Medici, I've never actually been in, but I've heard its pretty much exactly the same. Is located off of Figueroa, a few blocks north of 1st ST.
Pegasus - Located on 6th and Flower, right accross the street from the standered. Has a much more urban/new york theme to its architecture. Tends to be kind of noisey as there are many young people live there who like to party alot and security tends to be pretty lax on that. Parking is a bit of a hassle in their garage, as they don't have enough spaces to accomdate everyone in the building. Has a pool on the roof.
Promenade Towers - Don't know too much about it, but I think its one of the cheeper apartment buildings. Its also a little more run down though and isn't as nice. Is located at 2nd and Fig (or somewehre very close to there).
City Lights - Located off of Fig and Washington, or close to that. Very similar to Medici, but has a more west coast theme to teh building. Lots of USC students also live here.
The Met - I've never been in but I'm told its very nice, but that its one of the more pricey places to live in downtown.
Santee Court - Is a little east of figueroa, as you start to get into more shady areas of downtown, but is a very very nice building (and very pricey). It has some great lofts though.

Other places you may wanter check out is Gas Company Lofts and Spring Tower.
There are places everywhere downtown. It is expensive though, but so is anywhere in Los Angeles. I personally love downtown and may be living there when I move back. A website you may want to check out is www.loftlivingla.com.

Yeah sorta, it seems like I'm back there almost every weekend. I plan on loading everything back up into my car and making the drive back out there in the end of May. I have a class I'm taking back here in St. Louis which ends May 11th. Once thats done with, I'm going to quit my job and head out west again. I just need to get a job lined up out there first .
I'm actually going to be back out in LA on the 22nd. We need to throw down a mix together. I don't know if I'll have time this trip though, but aren't you turning 21 soon? When is that? I'll happily buy you a birthday Irish car-bomb or two or three when I'm out there.

try craigslist and westsiderentals.com. those 2 websites will net you a ton of stuff. you have to sign up for westsiderentals, but it's well worth it.

Okay thanks for the help. Gehtzmul I never lived in Davis, currently i'm in Monterey Area and before that I lived in the Bay area. I can do a 1 bedroom/loft for around 1500, maybe a couple hundred more to find something special. I've been looking at craigslist and their just isn't a whole lot there. I was also wondering what buildings people had heard good things about etc. I may also not know of a good neighborhood other than downtown or silverlake.

$1500 is about what you'll pay for a 1bdrm in downtown. There are lots of other good areas to look around in though. I would look primarily at a location that is close to where you work.

I'll be going to USC as will my GF. I don't know where i'll be working yet. Probably some high end audio video home theater type place. I might also be working at one of the major music labels it depends.

Ah good man. Thats a great school (I'm an alumnus ).
Downtown is definatly your best bet. I'd also recommend looking into apartments in Korea Town. It is also very close to USC and there are some great apartments hidden away in that area. Theres lots of apartments and houses for rent around USC, but pretty much all of them are way over priced and have either a slum lord who owns them, or a huge mega corporation that owns almost 50% of the housing adjacent to USC and only pays 3 maintence men to maintain their facilities(Conquest Housing).
For what you mentioned for work, most of those businesses are located in either West Hollywood, Beverly Hills or Westwood.

Yeah i figured as much. So i'd probably like to live somewhere in between then.

Check into places around in mid-town around La Brea. I've heard Hancock Park is a nice area and has pretty decent prices.
