Shortwave number stations?

A friend just told me about these creepy ass short wave radio stations. Anyone know about this stuff? Creepy....look it up in google, or wikipedia has some stuff on it.

absolutely...I know first hand HAM gear can transmit in that typical band cause I myself got a license years ago, and used to play around with radio

I had an uncle that used to have a real hardon for HAM. Not sure if he still operates or not. It was neat stuff to us silly kids.

HAM radio isn't short hand wavelengths though. These "number stations" are only detectable with shortwave radios. The general concensus is that these are for agents in the field, spies, etc. So, its not HAM radio operators. Really read up on it. This clip is probably one of the most famous. It comes out of Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall I believe is what I read.

Posted by headphonez on Mar-13-2007 01:57:

you can download all of the content from the Conex Project here.
the download link is somewhere 3/4's down the page. just look for conex project under artist name.

Yeah the begining part isn't something uncommon to hear in the number stations. The following part after that is where the "code" starts to begin, and is repeated over and over, then back to the music to signify end of transmission....then it looks back again. There are some other weird ones that have intros that are just certain weird arpeggios and polyphonic simple sounds. There is another thats actually a really low quality (probably because of a weak signal when recorded by whoever) clip of Yosemetey Sam from Loony Tunes saying: "Gonna get you gosh darn varmit!" and then a mans voice saying a few numbers over and over, and then back to the clip. The thing is that with shortband frequencies, its really really hard to pin point a location. Something to do with the type of wave it uses, it like bounces off everything really easily. However, there have been independent research projects done trying to track some down to a very general area. That yosemety sam one was actually tracked to the alberkerky, new mexico area...which is sort of funny with the whole reference it gives to bugs bunny...or creepy...whatever. There are a lot of very weird signals. There are also recordings of signals being jammed too with weird sine waves playing over shit. there is even a clip somewhere that I heard a code being jammed by a chinese music.

CREEPY SHIT

bro, Ham radios can listem to the entire shortwave frequency band, which is 0-30 MHz and is also known as the HF band or "high frequency" and with simple modifications, can transmit from 0-30 MHz as well. This is the band where worldwide communications are done cause the RF waves bounce off the atmosphere, unlike VHF/UHF which is highly directional. This is why u can hear transmissons from all over the globe, and especially when theres high sun spot activity the range and signal strength is increased from the sun charging the atmosphere even more.
