[Hickory, NC] Matt Harder w/kick ass locals - 3/24/07 - FNO

This one's going to be big guys! Lets bring the scene back to Hickory...

I live real close to hickory. I live in morganton about 30 minutes away. The scene is dead around here. Gimmie some more info on this. FNO?

FNO is short for the Funky Night Owls. It's a new venue in Hickory with a "come as you are" attitude. One of the owners is a DJ herself, and she's been really supportive of us. The owners came from New Orleans. Its got a really eclectic vibe...IDK how to describe it except to say that it feels very "homey" here.

Check out the club here

(PS: Ignore the Owl. Thats all the owners' idea...)

Random Transitions is a group of Hickory DJs that's trying to bring a scene back to Hickory. This is going to be the first major event that we've done, but if the turnout is good then we can keep bringing in well-known locals like Matt Harder... There's a lot in the pipeline for us but everyone is watching this event before taking any further steps.

About the DJs...

Matt Harder is a well-known Breaks DJ from Asheville. He's getting up there with the likes of Aaron Sigmon is terms of skill and notoriety. I'm personally looking forward to hearing this guy play!

Yours truly is spinning (as DJ Funktion). I play funky/Disco House, with a bit of everything else thrown in. I've been mixing for almost two years now, and hopefully my love for the music shows in my sets.

(promoting myself feels weird)

MesOne is a very good Breaks DJ from SC, and a good friend of ours. His stuff is a bit progressive, and he knows what hes doing behind the decks.

Abstract and Motion...I haven't heard Motion so I can't comment on him but Abstract has been kicking ass all over NC for the past year now. He has been booked for Sugar Society events, and he has had residencies in Hickory for a while also. He spins some sick Breaks. Personally I can't wait to hear his set...

Gex is a good friend of mine and an up-and-coming DJ that we are trying to expose here in Hickory. He spins some banging Electro House that doesn't suck. And his mixing keeps getting better...

Mark Maher...IDK how he sounds, but he's going to be spinning his own blend of funky Breaks. He's opening for us, so come early to hear what he has to offer!

I know Matt. He went to App St with me, and I use to see him all the time spin in Boone. Yeah I know about some Morganton. It's all about Burke County!

You can get in if you're 18+....

Beware the black X of DOOM!

See you guys tommorow night! I can't wait

Ahh how'd it go? My car died on I-40 (my car is a piece, getting a new one sometime this week) and I didn't make it.

We had a lot of fun Sat. The turnout wasn't that great, but it was an improvement over the last party (the vibe was great!), and we are not deterred from throwing another event. There'll definately be a next time, although we may stick to locals due to the finances of this event...

Sorry about your car. That really sucks that you couldn't make it, but there will be a next time!

how far is hickory from fayetteville?

Posted by Dojomaster26 on Apr-15-2007 00:58:

ghille: I'm not sure off the top of my head. We're closer to the western border than the Outer Banks. Hickory is about an hour's drive from Charlotte...

well, thanks anyway, I may have to check this out one of these days, sounds like a good time.
