Bassnectar, Houston, March 16
I haven't seen it posted on here but I got an email about this upcoming event. I won't be in town for it, but I've been living in/near San Francisco for a while now, and I can tell you that Bassnectar will bring the ownage. I used to wonder why people in SF make such a big deal about him, but after seeing him live several times I understand.
I'd like to STRONGLY recommend that anyone who's free for this go check it out. It's free, BYOB, and guessing from the fact that it's Bassnectar and being promoted as a "Free" Party (in the more traditional sense of, free to do what you damn please while you're there), it'll probably be hard to beat. So if you're not too wiped out from seeing Digweed tomorrow night, or if you need a wind-down from it, go check this out.

Sounds more like a rave. Is it?
Just went out to his website. Yep, it will be a rave
when bassnectar came to touch he was playing hip hop. seriously... he played DROP IT LIKE ITS HOT. n some ohter stuff. ive seen his preformances on clips of burning man... but ... he is on the rave ish side... i wouldnt see him but its good to see the scooby doo crew coming back.
when i've seen him in SF he's been playing breaks with lots of phat basslines, so I dunno if he just plays differently on the road.
and tbqh, wtf is wrong with it being a rave, if it is? just because it's not a normal club night doesn't mean it won't be fun. and believe it or not, after being in a city that actually HAS an underground scene, you're missing out on a lot if you dismiss this just because "it's a rave."
i must say , mojo, you have a fine critique.

OH DEAR
I didn't intend that as angrily as it apparently was taken. Personally I think there's a distinction bewteen types of raves. You've got Massives, which I generally can't stand. There are raves where the majority of people only go because they want to take drugs, and care very little about the music itself. And lastly, you have raves where people go for the music and the party, and whatever drugs you do are enhancement and not the entire purpose. The first 2 categories aren't my thing, but the last one is. And every time I've seen Bassnectar, whether in a club or in a more underground setting, it's been more like the last.
All I'm saying is, if you're not busy I'd suggest checking it out. You literally could not have an event like this in SF because the venue would be at capacity within 5 minutes of opening unless it were held somewhere truly huge, and even then it would probably fill. As far as what music he plays, I strongly dislike hip hop and jungle and drum & bass, but I have loved the music every time I've heard Bassnectar play here in SF. It could be somewhat hit or miss on the music, but it's free so you don't get hurt by finding out.
It's Free??? Not that I would gripe about a free show, but who in the world would put on a free show. I think it's great that they would do that. But to not have any type of revenue coming in is strange to me.
As for the rave types, your second option is what usually occurs in most Texas rave scenes. So I stay away from that.
Since you weren't trying to be angry I will slap Dave's mom extra hard tonight.
