REVIEW: The Best DnB Weekend EVER!!!!!!!
FRICTION @ GUV
As soon as I arrived at the Guv, I was pleasantly surprised by all the dancing space (and the LCBO parking space). Saigon started the night off with a wikkid set. While he was spinning, I ran into Renee (a promoter for Theory) and she broke the news to me that Sub Focus would not be there. To be honest, I was really upset. I had been looking forward to seeing him all week. Luckily Friction still made it. His set was okay I guess. It wasn't really anything out of the ordinary, and I felt that a lot of tracks that he chose (at the beginning) didn't work too well together. He was all over the place. The second half of his set was MUCH better. I have a pretty severe knee problem (a mix of arthritis, and smashed patellar ligaments) so I had to rest for a while. But as soon as he started spinning good tracks, I went crazy! I really wanted to hear TC ft. Jakes - Deep, and I thought that he teased me by playing about five seconds of it, but Idma assured me that I am just crazy. Apparently I was just hearing things. Blah.
I always complain about MCs, but MC SP was really good. He wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear the tracks - his voice was at the perfect volume. And he had mad skills.
After Friction's set, we were both really sore and tired, so we hung around for a bit of Marcus Visionary's set (which I wasn't really enjoying) and then went home. There was not really any sketch factor at all on Friday (except for a few creepy guys). It was nice to run into Musik_Fiend. I haven't seen her in about a year! I am glad you are no longer "hibernating."
Overall, I am rating the night as 6/10. I don't regret going even though Sub Focus wasn't there. I had a great time.
WORLD OF DRUM & BASS @ SIN CITY
If I could sum this up in one phrase, it would be, "OMFG!!!!!!" Wow wow wow. This and WEMF 06 are my two favourite events. Here's how it went down:
Dima and I were not going to go (though we had already purchased tickets). He had to get some shit done, and his legs were sore (as were mine). Of course we decided at the VERY last minute to go anyway. We didn't want our sexy tickets to go to waste.
We saw the long line up to get in and didn't want to wait and miss any of the DJs, so we found some of my reduced list numbers and went in that line (smartest thing EVER! Seriously, from now on, whenever I get an advanced ticket, I am going to put myself on reduced as well so that the line isn't as long). We got in pretty quickly, checked our coats (ugh, the coat check dude was such a bitch ass), and then walked around a bit. This was my first time at Bingo Hall/Sin City/Palazzo/whatever you wanna call it, and I liked it. It's a really nice venue. We passed by the breaks room and we counted about twenty people at the most in there. Hahahaha. It was even worse in the house room. Poor Jelo.
DJ SS was the first to spin. He was wikkid. He definitely got me pumped up for Clipz! LOVED the track selection! Hated the rewinds, but I guess I have to learn to deal with that crap. Then Krust and Tali came on. OMG. Soooo wikkid! Tali is my favourite MC. She has good crowd interaction, an amazing voice, and what she says actually sounds good. My perspective on MCs is somewhat different from what it was before Saturday. They are the perfect accessory if they don't sound like shit. LTC (Ladies Take Control) came on afterwards, and I was blown away once again by the MC. MC Kay (I think?) was really awesome. I don't really have any negative comments about this night's DJs. They were flawless!
Sketchy moments:
-vomit all over the floor
-getting scared when Idma came up to me to tell me something
-2 middle aged sketchbags who looked like they came from a salsa class, snorting lines of coke off of eachother's bodies every 5 minutes
-someone's mom was there! Hahahahahahahaha!!
-the gino who didn't know what to do
Tracks of the night:
Sub Focus - Swamp Thing
Future Prophecies - Dreadlock
TC - Jump
Clipz- Information
TC- Game Over
TC - Where's My Money
Cut & Run - Murder in the Jamrock
Unknown - Unknown (
)
Rating of the night:
9.999999999999999999999999999/10 I would have rated it 10/10 if someone (preferably Clipz) had played TC-Deep.
I am extremely glad that we attended these events. This weekend will definitely be a difficult one to top!
My body is killing me. I am covered in bruises My collarbone, back, and shoulders feel broken, and I can barely walk now. It was worth it though. Pain for pleasure.
We took pics, but I will let Mister Fur post them.
I am still really excited - even thought it is over.
awesome review Katie! Too bad Sub focus wasn't there.
Was he stuck in weather like everyone else was?
I really should try coming out to some Dn'B stuff as I don't mind the music and they sound like a blast!
