Eight-Year-Old Boy Dies At School
Monday March 19, 2007
A terrible tragedy has unfolded at a GTA public school.
Details are sketchy about what happened, but an eight-year-old child was pronounced dead after being found at John McCrae P.S. in the Major Mackenzie and McCowan area.
The youngster was discovered in the stairwell of the school in the afternoon during gym class, and immediately rushed off to Markham-Stouffville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 4pm.
He was apparently running up and down the staircase as part of gym class, but had grown tired and started to walk with some other students at the time he suddenly collpased.
A gym teacher was supervising the class when the incident occurred and both the instructor and paramedics tried to revive him. But they couldn't.
"We were just like exercising on the stairs," a female classmate named Pooja recalls.
"I just went upstairs. I just saw him lying on the ground. And then he just started banging his head on the ground. And that's when everything happened.
"My teacher just told us to go to a different class and we just stayed there," she added.
There's no immediate word on the cause and the investigation is ongoing. The boy's name won't be released until all his family members have been notified.

Alright, I am totally going to hell for this... but I totally laughed.
I imagined a fat kid hating the excercise so much he stopped and decided to bash his head into the ground to get out of doing the work out.
Please forgive me.

BTW, I don't think what really happened is funny... just my little scenario that I came up with seemed funny.
I wonder what happened... maybe a brain aneurism?
The banging the head would have been a seizure most likely caused by an aneurism. Just tragic, probably a congenital defect, a time bomb waiting to go off.
My thoughts go out to the family. RIP.
A girl in my grade 7 class died the same way, except we were doing track and field when it happened.

| Originally posted by Jeff Button Coming up with a scenario like that after reading about an eight year old dying - i'll stick by my original statement. |

Wow, poor boy. RIP
ya i read that last night...
i really hope it was an aneurysm, at least it would be a simple understanding to the tragic situation.. but really I wonder what could of happen
rip
what bonehead would make 8 year olds run up and down stairs.....
gosh..
reminds me of my grade 6 or 7 class it was. during a gym period a couple of girls were leading warm up and one of them collapsed and went into a seizure. she apparently had a heart defect noone knew about. the girl was a gymnast so everyone was shocked. it was really scary...
RIP
What bonehead would make kids sit around all day doing no physical activity? Running up and down stairs is an excellent way to improve both strength and endurance when done for an appropriate amount of time.
I certainly hope that this tragedy doesn't compell parents to lash out at the gym teacher. Nowadays I think that P.E. is probably one of the only ways many children get the exercise they so desperately need.

my brother had that a few years ago. hes asthmatic but didnt want to let his teacher down. they were doing the beep test and he collapsed and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.. 2 cop cars, a fire truck, and an ambulance came to his rescue... at this time, me and my mom were eating brunch and rushed to the school
