Laser treatment to quit smoking

I had never really looked into so-called "laser therapies" before, but it appears that at least one company offers two different sorts of "treatments":

Treatment to stop smoking.

Treatment to lose weight.

The medical science behind "laser treatment" is either non-existent or not very well explained, as far as I can tell. Nevermind that, though. A small but still significant percentage of people can quit bad habits with just a placebo. Now, about those two treatments for those two very different problems:

Anyone see a connection here?

I bet they use the same laser that they used in 'Real Genius'. So much power that it can fill a man's house with popcorn.

And here I thought I was the only person who knew that movie even existed. I love you, energyh4x.

I Dallas out twice in the last 2-3 weeks, and neither time did have a smoke in her hand or go outside for one.

Laser treatment looks like a modern form of acupuncture. It is an alternative treatment, not a scientific one. Acupressure has not been scientifically validated so in the "scientific" context, laser treatment may not be valid. There is a mention on Wiki:
quote:
A randomised trial of Tapas Acupressure Technique for weight-loss maintenance found attendance at weight maintenance was 72% for TAT Tapas Acupressure Technique- higher than any other method studied and warranting further study. This study was supported by a grant (R21 AT01190-02) from the National Center for Complementary/Alternative Medicine, National Institutes of Health, USA.

People "believe" in it. After all, placebos affect the "mind" and force the body to act accordingly. That would be the best medicine, with no ingestion of toxic substances or any side effects !!

They cut a tiny portion of skin off the top of your head and beam through to certain parts of the brain.
