grand canyon skywalk

here are some pics of the grand canyon skywalk. i would probably put a foot over the skywalk and then go back. that is pretty scary. it costs 75$ to go on this thing...








" Members of a Native American group based in a remote part of Arizona are hoping to entice more tourists by inviting visitors to step off the edge of the Grand Canyon.

The 1,500-member Hualapai tribe announced last week that the Skywalk�a giant, 30-million-dollar steel-and-glass walkway�will open to the public in March 2007.


The Skywalk will jut out 70 feet (21 meters) from the canyon rim, allowing tourists to go for a stroll with nothing between their feet and the Colorado River�4,000 feet (1,220 meters) below�except for four inches (ten centimeters) of glass.

The Hualapai, or "People of the Tall Pines," are working with the Las Vegas, Nevada-based Destination Grand Canyon to market the Skywalk and draw in valuable tourist dollars.

Many other tribes have turned their government-sanctioned right to run casinos into a major revenue source. But the Hualapai's remote location has undermined their efforts to host gambling.

Few tourists were willing to make the drive to the reservation with Las Vegas so close. And once they did, said Hualapai tribal member Robert Bravo, they didn't stay long.

"Ninety-four percent were coming out of Las Vegas. They'd throw a couple of nickels, a couple of dimes here and there. They're all on a time schedule."

Bravo, who serves as operations manager for the tribe's tourist hub, says other tribes can rely on gaming to support their people, but the Skywalk is the answer for the Hualapai.

"This is what's going to feed our tribe." "

I just saw this on the news. but i didn't catch the design.

tha'ts stupid. they should just build a bridge across the thing completely.

also, all its going to take is some fatass 500 lb person to walk to the edge of that and it'll fall off.

this reminds me of denis leary's skit on fat people visiting las vegas. ha!

It'd be cool to walk on, but that illustration overplays how far the bridge actually goes out. The real one is kinda lame in comparison.

that's an artist's rendition: the actual thing is much uglier. cost is 25 bucks plus admission onto indian land.

it's ironic that to get a scenic view of nature's beauty, you have to destroy said environment by drilling massive anchor rods into the gorge...

oh hell no...just looking at that thing makes me nervous. lol and i've hiked in the grand canyon twice. but i dunno, that's different and weird.

I can't imagine anyone making a big fuss about going out on that thing - and I certainly wouldn't pay $75 to.

Considering the idea of this skywalk in itself goes against Native American tradition, I dont see what the problem would be.

+1... although, when I heard about it on the radio, I thought it would take you to the other side.

But I certainly wouldn't pay 75 dollars for 20 metres =/

screw that, i never had any desire to be on a mule for those hikes. you can literally look down to your right and the trail your on just ends...you could easily fall right over and die. i didn't trust the mules. what if it fell and you're on it? no way man...
