Are you gay (this is not meant to offend, completely legit question).
Please read this before posting comments. I am an almost 22 year old male who has, for the past 4 years gotten into techno/trance and see it as my particular genre of choice. My friends girlfriend and others I have come into contact with always think I am being "gay" or commenting that techno is only for gay men. I know this can often hold true, but for the hell of it I wanted to create this poll just to see. No offense is intended and I have nothing against anyone that is homosexual, I just want to see the numbers. Thanks
i'm homophobe, so count me for -2 on the gay poll
well, there was suppose to be a poll with this but it didn't work for some reason, so a quick reply would be great
lol
really reliable method man
how about this:
any trance or house you listen to basically owes its complete existence to homosexuality since the 70s.
who gives a shit if youre gay or straight or lesbian or bisexual or intersex or "questioning", that sort of categorization and division of people is exactly what we dont need in the world
No, I just like the groove, vibe and music itself. I have idiots calling me gay all the time because I listen to this stuff.
But they'll all be bagging my fucking groceries and mowing my lawn in about 10 years
just ignore it yo
do what u do...
(seem like douchebag friends btw)
Your friend's girlfriend sounds like a hoebag. Seriously, homophobia, like racism, pretty much always comes across as stupidity.
Hm, first time I hear of something like this

The only knowledge of EDM that most people have is what they're fed by the media. Meaning shitty, stereotypical bullshit music they call "techno". Some of the things they call "techno" is like me calling Pink Floyd a hardcore metal band. Most images that the media portrays about EDM is in a flamboyant sense. I have nothing against gay people, I'm not a homophobe or whatever it's just that the media has created this vibe with EDM that it is a very flamboyant genre to listen to.
Which to this day boggles the shit out of me.
she's really not a homophobe as her brother is actually gay. I just have trouble "breaking the ice" with women I'm attracted to and thus she increasingly (usually jokingly but annoying nonetheless) calls me gay. whatever, should take it with a grain of salt I guess

just chase the bitch down with a boombox & laugh at her, yelling "haha, ur gay now!!!"
Dance music doesn't do any more to make you gay than rock does to make you straight.
She's just an idiot.
no, I'm not gay, btw.

The gay scene was always willing to try something, er, outside the norm. That's part of the reason dance music took root there. It was something innovative and different.
The unabashed hedonism of gay nightlife also played a part. Some early house would have made a hooker blush. The rhythm oozed sex on purpose, and you couldn't get the same frenetic dirtiness at the pace of disco.
It's really too bad that the gay scene is such a shadow of its former self. Circuit house stopped moving over a decade ago, and now it's just a sad joke.
I couldn't care less what kind of people are involved in the kind of music/scene I like. What difference does it make? I'll happily party with gay guys - Often they know how to party better than anyone, and without as much bullshit involved. Ok, you get hit on sometimes, but what the fuck do I care? I take it as a complement, ie. I'm not an ugly, feral loser. A simple "Sorry man, I'm straight" and you're sorted.
I'm willing to bet that most of you have hung out with gay people who you thought were cool as fuck. You just didn't know they were gay. If you found out they were, would it make a difference?
Not gay, but I listen to techno-music and take E 24/7 and dance with glowsticks in the dark.

no
your friend's an idiot
btw, if everyone said yes, would you change your preference of music?
Is your friend 12 years old or just his girl?
Disco (and partly detroit house) is hugely influenced by homosexuals. Just look up any disco artist/producer and most of the time they are gay. Look at the history of Paradise Garage and Studio 54, mostly homosexual people again.
Look no further than the reasons behind Disco Demolition Night.
Here is a promising article which I have not read yet(found it just now when search for disco demolition and gay):

| Smelling the lure of large profits, the recording industry began to devise ways of bringing disco music to the masses. This was inevitable as the sound had become more and more popular. What the recording industry didn't care about was the fact that a lot of the masses weren't necessarily really all that interested in dancing, and many of the white straight males, in particular, did not like the sound of black people's music, women singers, and music rumored to have gay overtones. |

| The late 1970s saw disco utilize the (by then) somewhat developed electronic sound and a limited genre emerged, appealing mainly to gay and Black audiences. In 1977, disco music crossed over into the mainstream American culture, following the popularity of hit film Saturday Night Fever and its accompanying soundtrack. As disco clubs filled there was a move to larger venues. [...] In Britain the growth of house can be divided around the "Summer of Love" in 1988. House had a presence in Britain almost as early as it appeared in Chicago; however there was a strong divide between the House music as part of the gay scene and "straight" music. House grew in northern England, the Midlands and the South East. Founded in 1982 by Factory Records the Hacienda in Manchester became an extension of the "Northern Soul" genre and was one of the early, key English dance music clubs. |
